I just traded my Deuce in for a '08 Softail Custom. I'm lookin' to put some black bars on it. However, I can't seem to find any black apes out there. Z-bars are fine with me too, but I can't find those in black either. I'm a fairly short guy so I can't go with anything really tall. I'm lookin' for a set about the same height as stock or maybe an inch or two higher. I'd also like to have a set that are drilled for internal wiring. Anyone know where I can find a set? Or am I stuck buying a set of bars and then having to get them powdercoated?Oh and if anyone's got some pictures of black apes on their softail, please post 'em. Thanks, guys, for your help.
Your best bet would be to buy the bars you want and find a powdercoater in your area to do it. Usually powdercoating is cheap, maybe $30.00 for a set of bars. brcustomcycles charges $75, too much in my opinion.
For the bars that say "Perfect for Narrow Glide and Springer front ends", how would they look with a wide front end? I like the Midget Gimp Hangers on Nash Motorcycle website, but I'm not sure how they would look because of what it says in the description. Any opinions?
If you go the Nash route, go ahead and pick up a set of their risers also. Their bars arent knurled, so when you hit bumps, they are gona slip down on you. I talked with them in Sturgis and sat on of their bikes with the bars and risers, no slippage whatsoever. The gimps on my Heritage slip on a daily basis, and believe me, its gets old real fast! I'm waiting for the risers to get back in stock, then ordering me a set. Otherwise, your gona have to figure a way around the slippage.
