Rush Slip-on Mufflers
Add another vote for the Rush 2.0" baffles. When I bought my Deluxe I told my parts guy I wanted the SE slip-ons but lo and behold he insisted I get the Rush slip-ons ( A non-Harley part, imagine that!) I was slightly skeptical, but when I got them on I honestly could not have asked for a better sound for my tastes. Nice low, quite "gurgle" if you need to keep a low profile, but wind her up and she ROARS. I don't notice the drone at high speeds, just a personal preference thing I guess. My buddy with SE slip-ons is very jealous. Easily the best money spent on my bike so far.

Why anyone would want more than 2.0 baffles mystifies me, how can you ride for an hour or two and not get a headache?

and I have the 2.25" baffles!
How loud they sound is going to depend on if you ride with a windshield or not. I have the 2" baffles and whenI have my windshield on for long highway rides they are loud! But without the windshield they definitely don't sound as loud because the wind noise blocks out a lot of the exhaust noise.
I ride mostlywithout a windshield, so I think the 2" baffles are perfect.

Well, my pipes are sitting at the dealership, and I have an appointment for my 1000M service next Tuesday. I am thinking of just going by the dealer and picking up the pipes and install them myself.
So, how hard is it to add slip-ons? Is it best to leave it to the dealer? Please don't laugh, I just never have done it before....

Slip-ons are VERY easy to install. On the Customs, you take out the two bolts holding them on and loosen up the clamp. Slip off the old ones (hardest part) and slip the new ones on. I had to move my pipe covers about a quarter of an inch which entails loosing two clamps and just sliding them forward. Replace the bolts you took out originally and tighten the clamp. Takes about 1/2 hour.
I have the Rush 1.50 baffles on my 07 Fatboy and they are louder than the stock mufflers. For me they are loud enough. But everybody has different taste. Also the bike performs well without any change to the FI mapping.
When putting the new ones on, it is a good idea to put a little anti-seize at the junction. It will help when removing them next time.
I have the Rush 1.75". When I talked to Jamie at Fuelmoto (a great place to buy them, BTW) he said the 1.75 "are louder than you think". He was right. These bark pretty loud when you rev up, and I'm thinking about earplugs for the highway for the first time. I wouldn't want them any louder.
Incidentally, I took decibelreadings on my stock pipes before removing them, and as soon as I take the same readings on the Rush, I'll post them here.

Now I actually have some data to helpanswer dlrshort's original question in this thread. I used a standard Radio Shack sound meter set on slow response. All the following readings were taken at a distance of 20'over pavement.Over dirtor grass thelevels are about 2db quieter. "Revved" means I revved it up about the waypeople do when they aretrying to get someone's attention - you know, vrooom, vrooom. SinceI don't have a tach, I realize thatthisisn't too meaningful, but it's all I've got.
Fully stock 07 softail custom:
From rear at idle: 73db
From right side at idle: 69db
From rear revved: 79db
From right side revved: 79db
Same bike with stage 1 kit, including 1.75" Rush slip-ons:
From rear at idle: 73db
From right side at idle: 73db
From rear revved: 88db
From right side revved: 84db
Incidentally, for comparison, I took the same readings on my mower and generator:
Toro mower (Briggs engine) from exhaust side: 76db. 73db from the other 3 sides.
Champion 3500watt generator: 70-73db from all 4 sides.
From this it appears that the Rush are no louder than the stock pipesat idle (but they do sound deeper). And these are both a bit quieter than the average mower or generator. On accelleration, though, the Rushdo get significantly louder than stock; about 5-9db depending on where you are in relation to the bike. Hope this helps.

Snowmass:
Nice work. This is the kind of information that I find really useful.
Interesting that the 1.75 Rush from the rear under throttle are 8 dB higher than stock. That may not seem like a lot, but adding only 3 dB makes it twice as loud, so the 8 dB difference is really almost 8 times as loud as the stock mufflers. That is enough louder to satisfy me!

My Rush 2" are just the right size. Any louder and I'd be deaf. They bark like a wild dog. That plus the Power Commander are just the right combination. Great power, sound and performance.
