Now I actually have some data to helpanswer dlrshort's original question in this thread. I used a standard Radio Shack sound meter set on slow response. All the following readings were taken at a distance of 20'over pavement.Over dirtor grass thelevels are about 2db quieter. "Revved" means I revved it up about the waypeople do when they aretrying to get someone's attention - you know, vrooom, vrooom. SinceI don't have a tach, I realize thatthisisn't too meaningful, but it's all I've got.

Fully stock 07 softail custom:
From rear at idle: 73db
From right side at idle: 69db
From rear revved: 79db
From right side revved: 79db

Same bike with stage 1 kit, including 1.75" Rush slip-ons:
From rear at idle: 73db
From right side at idle: 73db
From rear revved: 88db
From right side revved: 84db

Incidentally, for comparison, I took the same readings on my mower and generator:
Toro mower (Briggs engine) from exhaust side: 76db. 73db from the other 3 sides.
Champion 3500watt generator: 70-73db from all 4 sides.

From this it appears that the Rush are no louder than the stock pipesat idle (but they do sound deeper). And these are both a bit quieter than the average mower or generator. On accelleration, though, the Rushdo get significantly louder than stock; about 5-9db depending on where you are in relation to the bike. Hope this helps.
Thanks Snowmass for a well researched answer.

I have the 1.75's on my heritage classic and they are about perfect. I did have thunderheaders before and they were way to loud, The Rush 1.75's seem to have a great balance.

Just found this post and appreciate the research from Snowmass. The experts say that anything above 90 decibels over a 8 hour time frame can harm your hearing; wonder what the decibel level would be on the Rush mufflers with the 1.75" baffles out on the open road?

I put the 2.0 on my deluxe, I think tommy is right although i love mine they are a bit louder than i wanted, the 1.75 is what i would buy if i were doing it again. My brother and i both bought our bike in nov. after hearing mine hes getting the 1.75 . I guess if we both get pulled over he wants me to get the ticket lol. got mine at fuelmoto. I did have some trouble with them lining up with holes , could only get 1 bolt in each they said i could return them and they would ck them out but the 1 bolt seems to be holding good so i just kept them. good luck with your choice i think you'l love the rush.

I put the 1.75 " baloney cuts on my '08 Deluxe. I had the 2" on my 07 Nightster and they were just a little too loud for longer rides. Sure as heck sounded good. The 1.75's seem about perfect for me. I bought the first set through a HD dealer and paid way too much. Smartened up for the second set through Cyclespot. I ride with my windshield on 90% of the time.

Well, my pipes are sitting at the dealership, and I have an appointment for my 1000M service next Tuesday. I am thinking of just going by the dealer and picking up the pipes and install them myself.

So, how hard is it to add slip-ons? Is it best to leave it to the dealer? Please don't laugh, I just never have done it before....
They're easy to install. You might have to work the old onesoff as they're onpretty tight. A couple weeks ago on a similar thread someone posted a nice tutorial of their SE slipon install. You should be able to search it out. They recommend using new clamps but I just re-used the ones on my 08 Heritage. I read that you should torque them 5-10 lbs over stock pipes which I believe is 60lbs. I went to 70lb. Been ona few weeks and no apparent leaks. I read somewhere you should clean the pipes of fingerprints and the like before heating them up or they'll burn in permanently.

I got my 1.75s from cyclespot for $232 delivered. UPS delivered them in 2 days.
