Unfortunately my 2000 88B does not have a primary drain plug with straight threads and an O-ring.
What it has is the magnetic drain plug with tapered pipe threads and no O-ring. The service manual specifies a measurement for the plug to hang down from the cover.
No where in the manual does it tell what to use on the threads......pipe compound?.....thread tape?
What do the guys without O-rings use????
Thanks as always
I used to not use anything however, my last change it started leaking. Im going to drain it and add Teflon tape. Ill let you know how it goes.
I used Teflon tape on my first primary oil change. Its ok but I no it is not a positive seal method. Ive used tape on every thread imaginable as a pipefitter.
Someone suggested to try this compound Hylomar.
Has anyone used this stuff?
I have two bikes with those pipe plugs in the primary..
I tighten them to spec and add Loctite 545 thread sealant..
Haven't had an issue yet....
Only because I take my time when working on my bikes, I usually let the thread sealant cure overnight before filling the primary or running the bike...

In my Aerospace Engineering life - Hylomar, fixed damn near anything leaking on turbine aircraft engines. It's incredible and stays playable [ non-hardening]—oil, fuel, heat, resistant.
