Default 1999 Softail Standard - Deal?

A local guy has a nice Standard for sale with some performance mods and appearance mods, all fully documented. He is including all the original take-offs with the sale. 11,270 miles. The bike appears spotless. He wants $7K for this thing, but I think it's worth $4K or maybe $5K at the most. Thoughts and opinions?

99 Softail Standard, last year of the EVO engine in softail models. Motor work done by original owner, high compression piston kit, cam upgrade, heavier valve springs, and Mikuni carb upgrade. Have all the receipts and paperwork as well as the original components. Lowering kit on the rear, upgraded 80 spoke front wheel, nice chrome accessories. Tons of spare parts, 2 sets of bars, original exhaust, seat etc. Bike runs and rides like a top, and pulls hard. Would maybe consider KTM dirt bikes for partial trade.

I wondered this. Book value pretty much means nothing right now. Market value is everything.

Mileage and condition of bike $6500.00 would be a fair price.

I went and looked at it last night. Super clean, but needs tires and some other small stuff. I offered $5500 for it, but he didn't accept it right away. He just listed it, so it's understandable he wants to take other offers. We'll see what happens. It sounds pretty mean.

Super clean looking bike, although I personally hate those style of risers.... Personal preferences aside, IMHO, it is over priced....

The crazy seller's market is changing.... Inflation is making discretionary purchases, like motorcycles, take a back shelf with a lot of people... but as always with Harleys, there are a lot of emotional buyers willing to overpay just to get a Harley....

I'm in the market for used Low Rider. Been looking for about a year. I'm not willing to overpay, and since I have three other Harleys, I'm willing to wait until a good/fair deal comes up. I have noticed that the Low Riders of the vintage I am looking for aren't selling as fast, or for as much, as they were even a month or two ago... Many that I thought were overpriced are still listed, and their listings are 1 or 2 months old.....

The value of that bike by Black Book Powersports:

Year: 1999
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FXST Softail Standard
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1340
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 1HD1BHL1X
Finance Advance: $4,155
MSRP: $11,995
Avg Retail: $5,235
Auction Wholesale $4,075
Clean Trade: $4,020
Fair Trade: $3,315

The average retail value is $5,235. That bike appears to be above average. I also think a solid maintenance and service history, with documentation, has value...

Ask yourself how much above average retail that bike is to you...?

Bottom line..... If it's all you have been looking for, then pay more for it, and enjoy the bike!

Good luck with your decision and bike search...

Yep, I did all the research before making the offer. I'm not a fan of those bars, either. He has the original bars and another that come with the bike.
