Im a new Harley owner and I bought a 2012 Fatboy Lo. About a month ago the final drive sprocket broke off when the bolts snapped in the wheel, I walked the bike back to my house and when I went to turn the bike on I get a click. Could it be that the bike won’t turn over if the belt is loose or is there something else I have to worry about ?
COngratulations on your first post to HDF,
to the FORUM.
Yep probably time for a new battery - get it load tested first. Has nothing to do with the belt or your drive sprocket bolts shearing off. Plenty of threads on the sprocket bolts, use the search function.
Maintenance is the key, if you do not have a factory service manual, highly recommend getting one if you are going to do your own work.
Be aware you will need to have a full inspection of your wheel and threads in the wheel. If you have not done this before, better to get a professional to look at it. New factory bolts are in order.
Just based on the two bolt holes in that one picture I would say that wheel is now wall art. New wheel, new bolts. As for it not starting...sounds like a coincidence and probably start with testing the battery and checking the connections
I forgot to update you guys sorry about that, wont happen again. i fixed those issues, i took the rear wheel to Brooklyn Mayd, a shop near my work place, they removed the snapped bolts and mounted a new sprocket. While i had the wheels of i decided to get them painted, wasn’t a fan of the polished silver lip the wheels come with. In regards to the other issue i was having, you guys were correct with diagnosis the battery was shot i swapped it out and the bike started right up. THANK YOU GUYS
. By the way shout out to Brooklyn Mayd they got the job done quick and didnt charge me an arm, if any one in the NYC area needs work give them a call.
