Default 84 fxst.

Does anyone have any information, My bike is stamped as an ' 83 FXWG' it is a 4 speed, kick and electric start, EVO - from factory and has 4 stars stamped on the crank case.

To look at it should be stamped as an 84 FXST as it's clearly a softail.

It has had me wondering 🤔

If anyone knows anything let me know what you think. Havent been able to find a great deal about it.

When you say it is “stamped”, where is the stamp you are referring to?

Stamped on neck of the frame up near tank and on engine block. The both match.

as in the VIN numbers. Engine and frame match up.

That appears to be the first softail production model offered in 1984.... IIRC, there was a prototype/concept model in 1983, I don't know how many were built..

My buddy had an 84 softail with a 4-speed & electric/kick start that he bought new... he always regrets selling that bike and always keeps his eye out a good used one for sale...

They also made the FXWG in 1983 and 1984 (last year), which were a swing arm bikes...

I have no idea why yours has the FXWG stamp, yours is clearly a softail.

What is the VIN (you can leave out the last five numbers) and what is it registered as....?

I also had a first year Softail and still regret letting it go.
There is one not far from me but not stock that I’m considering taking a look at.

Leaving for Sturgis in 1987.

This one is for sale near me.

Someone may have changed the front end. They were bastards in 84 as they had a mid year change over.

Deleted.
Upon reflection, what I said didn’t make sense.

My educated guess is if the frame wasnt cut and a new SN was welded in, odds are its an fxst and they either did not have the fxst designation set up of someone on the stamping machine didnt know what it was and it is the brother of the WG. GREAT bike!

It's registered as an FXWG. I will get the VIN for you and let you know.

I am second owner, the bloke i got it off said that he thought it was a prototype sent over to Australia, but yeah was just trying to see if anyone has seen it before... its had me scratching my head for a while.
