With the exception of people who run engine oil (like HD SYN3 20w50 engine oil) in all three holes, I think most people choose to run a gear oil in their transmissions....

All my riding friends use gear oil in their transmissions...

I have always used gear oil in my trans to include 2 shovel heads, 1 EVO, and 5 Twin Cams...

One time when the MoCo first came out with SYN3 synthetic oil (2003), I let a dealer put it in all three holes as they suggested... My trans sounded like a box of rocks, and within a month or so, I drained that 20W50 oil out of the trans and went went back to gear oil...

I used Valvoline SynPower synthetic gear oil (75W90) for many years...

For the last 5 years I've been using BelRay V-Twin Gear oil which is 85W140.

Harley recently came out with their own transmission specific synthetic gear oil called Harley-Davidson Heavy Synthetic Gear Oil (@ 80W140).

And sometimes, when I would run my bagger hard in the summer, I would get the smell of the gear oil from the trans vent....

I've been running mobile 1 75w90 in my 06 fxst tranny for years. Runs like a top! Rotella T4 in the primary...

Whoever is charging you $2.00 per O-ring is a crook....

The HD oil plug o-rings are a 7/16" ID x 9/16"OD x 1/16" thick o-ring... The standard size is 013....

I prefer Viton rubber over Buna rubber....

Look around you can get them really cheap...

I used the Valvoline Synthetic Gear Lube (75w90) in my 05 that was not shifting real smooth on crankcase oil and it smoothed it right out. I like the 'bag' it comes in for easy filling, too.... no funnel needed. I just got bike w 14k on it, so I'll need more miles to be certain.

Don't feel too bad about your O-Ring, I stripped the drain plug & had to re-tap the thing. What an awful place to put the drain.

I have no idea what those o-rings are....

If they measure to the specs I posted above, they will work...
