Vegas odds are 3:1 that @strych9 does not make it 2 years before voiding the warranty.

Too bad, I was going to the Gun Store today to get a blackout and wanted to hear your opinion.

You mentioned you want to keep your factory warranty... so I'll offer my understanding/opinion of the laws involved...

The warranty is between you and the HD Motor Company.... the dealer cannot change the terms of the written factory warranty..... Unfortunately, many dealers have been known to stretch the truth in order to sell bikes and parts... That's what got them in trouble last year..

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty act of 1975, prohibits a company from conditioning a consumer product warranty on the consumer’s using any article or service which is identified by brand name unless it is provided for free.

The MoCo got into trouble last year about voiding warranty coverage when a bike wasn't repaired/serviced by a Harley Dealer and/or used Harley brand parts. They were OEM maintenance parts like oil, plugs, etc and OEM replacement parts.... it did not include "performance" parts...

The MM Warranty Act does not cover "performance" parts. Parts that actually change the performance of the engine are still covered under the terms of the written warranty.

If you want your warranty, you should read it yourself instead of relying on what other people (including me or a dealer) may tell you...

Pay special attention to the "Exclusions", namely #3 & #4..

#3 Which is not equipped to comply with the laws of the market in which it is registered.

#4 Which has off-road parts or competition parts installed to enhance performance, a trailer hitch, or has other unapproved modifications (even if these modifications include genuine Harley-Davidson® parts and accessories that are not approved for use on your motorcycle). These modifications may void all or parts of your new motorcycle limited warranty. See an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer for details.

Check the manufacturer of the cams & exhaust to see if they are EPA 50 states approved. If not, then call Harley-Davidson customer support center @ 1-800-258-2464 and ask if the S&S 474 cams or Vance & Hines exhaust will void your warranty. Theirs will be the final word, unless you disagree and wish to file a lawsuit.

This could save you a major headache, should you need a major engine warranty repair while under warranty...
