Default 2000 fat boy questions.

2000 fat boy twin cam 88 24000 miles or 39000 km
Looking at this next week.
I want a carby bike for old school sound and thinner wheels.
Can I fit the key less fob alarm system from later bikes onto this.
I intend to keep this fairly standard but address the cam tensioner issues of this model.
Also will 96 cu motor and box bolt in this frame. No intention of doing just curious.
Thanks

Just bore your cylinders to 95".
Carb will not give you old school sound. Get a shovel, or a maybe a cam when you bore to 95".

I would not touch a bike with MM fuel injection, unless you plan on making a project out of it. I still would get something else. I am not sure how pricing and availability is there. Around here old TCs are cheap and easy to come by. Went up some during covid with the free government money

It's this or an evo fat boy. Carb just gives lower idle I think.
i have late model bikes for fast so low hp not an issue.
Just looking for early but still reliable.
Might go 95 one day.

Lowering the idle is not going to give you the sound you want. Its not a shovel. Also lowers oil pressure.

I wouldn't buy a MM. Different if you already own one. MM is hard to get parts, and not as many people know how to work on it. Not as bad if just going to leave stock. Converting to carb is a project. It can be done, but it is a project. Around here there plenty of carbed or delphi bikes. Not sure if the same for you.

As with any used purchase, do you really need to buy it today? If so then buy what is available, or wait.

I'd go carbed evo over TC MM.

This is a carby twin cam 88.
I am aware there are no parts for the 88 fuel injection systems.
TC MM I am guessing is the fuel injected version.
option 1 TC 88 $12990 -39000km
option 2 97 evo FB $17000 - 22000km

My mistake. Myself, I'd take the TC for more power, and than I would bore it to 95". But evo people love evos. It really is about what you grew up with. The TC is quite a bit a cheaper. Both are fairly low miles. I'd go cheaper with bigger displacement, unless you simply like one more than another.

I went to gear drive cams in my 2002 carbed Fat Boy. 16 or 17 years of trouble free riding since.
I don't know how the Aussie dollar compares to the US dollar. But if they're anywhere close those would be considered high prices for the year of motorcycle in the US.

It's 8000 to 11000 us dollars.
that's just the pricing and 12000 usd gets me a 96 or 103.
There are plenty of options for cam chain tensioner upgrades. The ss 509G gear driver kit is an option. Also screaming eagle cam plate and oil pump with hydraulic tensioner. Has dual disc upgrade so could be upgraded already. Find out next week.
