Hey guys, I'm finding it a little hard to determine if S&S actually still make the M8 SOFTAIL "race only" version and where I can get hold of one? It's not on the S&S website, and I'm having trouble finding anyone that actually lists it for sale. It definitely exists, as I have seen the Youtube vidoes.
you may have to call, or find an overstock one somewhere.
some recent EPA laws have some wording around using RACE ONLY products on any motor vehicle originally manufactured and issued with a VIN.
Yeah, the one I'm talking about actually has a small "race only" printed logo next to the standard S&S logo at the end of the muffler.
Can't find it for sale anywhere. And I wonder how different it actually is in terms of some sort of special design that makes it "different" to the standard pipe?

It just doesn't have a catalytic converter in it AFAIK. But the S&S cat if very high flow anyway, and the M8s seem to like a longer pipe with a bit of restriction.
When I bought my S&S Superstreet for my Low Rider, I chatted with my local(ish) tuning shop. They actually advised to get the street version with the cat as they were making slightly more power with it on the dyno. They also advised keeping the dB reducer in for the same reason.
With the stock cam and air filter my bike (117) made 109HP and 126TQ on the dyno with the S&S street pipe, which I was pretty pleased with. It also has a beautifully smooth torque curve.
I will be adding the S&S Stealth Air Stinger A/C and the S&S 55mm manifold this week, and probably the Star Racing 30/30 cam next month, so we will se how it dynos after that.

Interesting that the cat pipe and also leaving the Db reducer in there is actually recommended?
I have the same set up (Star Racing 30-30 cam). Look forward to hearing your new dyno results.
i know of a race system, dyno'd makes about 6 Peak HP more and i want to say about 4 Tq.
all in all 6 hp is legit amounts...but in real world on the street, how often is the rpm at that level where the 6hp would actually show you pulling away...Maybe on long highway run outs.
