I don't think there is one out there man. The trip meter is the way to go. I had a fuel gauge on my 2006 FXST and FLHT and neither was very accurate. You can mount a pretty cool see thru gauge on the side of the tank, but that I believe is beyond what you are wanting. I would run it where you are no more than 10 miles or so from a gas station until it stumbled and you had to switch to reserve. Do this riding it a little harder or lighter a few times and average the three for normal riding. That is your fuel gauge.

My question is , Why even bother? Harley can't even make one that works on a brand new bike which is more of a problem on fuel injected bikes because there is no reserve valve. This has been a common complaint , but do you think Harley cares ?

That's correct, none are available for our bikes. It can't be a simple plug & play because there's no way to wire a fuel gauge without major cutting & welding mods to one of the tanks.

Such mods can of course be done, but in the end one of your tanks will have a fixed (non removable) gas cap. Can you imagine how long you would have to wait for fuel to transfer over to the side with the fixed cap?

It's not at all practical, and like everybody else agrees, it's just not necessary. The "trip meter" works just fine.

Took this from a similair Softail thread. I guess ya learn something everyday. I didn't know it was because of the split gas tank. Hell, I forgot they HAD a split gas tank. I need to start looking at Evo's more often ;-)

But hey, work with what you're given for now - I'd say go about 120-ish miles and then start looking for a station.

All bikes get diff mileage.

just figure what mileage U get.

Then multiply it X's 3, that will tell U how many miles U can go and still have about 1.2 gals left in the tanks.

So if U get 30 mpg, then refill eveny 90 miles; if U get 50 Mpg, then refill every 150 miles.
