Default Trans plug debacle

So when you screw up and start kicking yourself, you start wondering how much it's going to cost.. then you do a quick Google search and see just how common this problem is. You start to feel better and plan on a way out of it. It seems there are A LOT of softails out there that have stripped the transmission drain plug. So I go down the rabbit hole of heli coils, time serts, and self tapping plugs. I ruled out the first two, there just isn't the access. Self tapping plugs on aluminum seemed to me doing on purpose what happened by accident. So our shop happed to have a brand new 9/16-18 tap. But that pug is up there so I started looking at removing the offside shock, looked simple enough on you-tube..NOPE.. without moving the wiring harness, I could not get a wrench on it, and I think it's a 19mm which I don't have. So I got a mirror, and flashlight up there, greased up that tap and went very slowly... whew! That went good, I feel very good about it. I think from now on I will suck out the fluid and leave that plug alone.

My mistake, after reading the thread title I thought this was related to the Dylan Mulvaney Bud Light fiasco. 😂

As for the drain plug:
I haven’t stripped mine out but it appears you’ve found a fix.

My threads came out after I bought by Night Train and did my first 3 hole oil change. Used a Time Sert and it's been rock solid.

How were you starting the screwing in of the plug not to feel that it was cross threaded?

I have a different bike but on the transmission plug I can do that up hand tight without tools. It would be obvious if it didn't go in straight.
