I have a 1989 softail custom and the original cast dash panel is cracked, it looks like someone drilled a hole in it to attach to the clip in the frame to hold it. I ordered a new “OEM” one online that is plastic and fits all softail 84-99 but doesn’t line up with the clip in the frame for the screw and doesn’t sit flush with the tank.
After looking at the old one I had I noticed it had 2 tabs on the bottom that may have had a pin or clip go in it. I found on J&P cycles a dash panel that matches more like my original with the cast panel and tabs but I’m not sure how it attaches with the large o-ring and clips.

I have the upper dash panel removed right now to work on the ignition switch. Am I missing a piece for the large o-ring to connect to, I tried going under the frame and connecting it to the clips but it seemed like it was still loose, even with the upper panel back on
