That whole ethanol thing is ridiculous ... I won't even run E85 in a vehicle designed for it. If ever there was a non-solution to a problem, E85 is it. Step away from that pump - Pull upto the real fuel :-)
Gotta disagree with ya. I'm all for giving less money to the Middle East and giving more money to the American farmer.
The American farmer has not been getting rich or even comfortable selling any product for a very long time. The only people getting the money for Ethanol are the agro giants like ADM. The farmers have to sell there corn to someone, and that someone tends to be large Agro corps that completly screw them, ethanol or no ethanol.
If ethanol became more widely used, the demand for it would obviously increase. And because the demand would increase, so would the supply. The more supply that is needed, the more farmers would produce. The more farmers produce, the more they are able to sell. The more the farmers sell, the more money they make. Whether or not it makes them rich, I don't know. But it will put more money in their pockets.

The bigger issue is why would you want to pay more for a fuel that in a same given engine will produce less hp, and less mpg. Unless you increase compression ratios and timing, notto mention remapping a lot richer, your stock harley will have less power, making that 100 octain e85 a real waist of money even with proper mixture. All the fuel system components should handle it, as the fuel has anti corroison additives in it needed for piping and transporting it. Generally if the system can handle 10% it can handle the E85. If the demand increases and farmers all jump on the band wagon, who's going to grow food? Seems to be a natural cap on the supply in my view.

I don't care to run E85. My boss was talking about running E85 in his new car and it made me wonder if the new bikes could handle it. Then I saw that they could handle E10. So I was curious if there was a kit that could be added to make the bike compatible. I'm sure if there was a kit, it'd be pretty pricey. I doubt I would ever set my bike up to run it. I know E85 get worse mileage because it has less energy than regular gasoline. It was just a thought I had and I was curious. Someone out there might would like to run it though. Maybe some liberal environmentalist who rides a Harley. I would, however, still prefer to give my money to the American farmer than the people in the Middle East. I don't buy from Citgo, so Venezuela get none of my money.
