Yeh, buying bike and parts in Qld is a battle. I ordered a Black Pearl Fatboy and got given a Black Cherry. Salesman didnt check the order. Flew 3 hours to Brisbane topick the bike up to get told if I dont like it then I would have to wait another 3 months till they got a black one in. The dealership didnt give a rats **** because of the supply and demand nature of the Fatboys. They knew if I didnt take it they would have it sold by the end of the day.
Have now moved to Brissy and am still having to deal with the same dealer because of the lack of HD dealerships in the area. Only 1 HD Dealer (new bikes)in the whole of Brisbane. There is however a real growth surge in custom bike shops popping up all over the place so things are not all glum.

DEANO - cant wait to see what the new mods do for your bike. And yes, all is forgiven for not buying QLD made.

No they don't hit you or capture them if under $1k. PM me and I will give you the details of someone else who will sort you out for custom prices and he can work around customs problems too to some extent Also he is a great guy and great prices too.

DeanO, re customs on the parts from HD Chicago - did they hit you with anything?

I note you mentioned anything under 1000 they let through, it's a good tip. Best to split the orders??

Sorry thought you had a fatboy when I wrote that. Night trains and Deuces etc etc look better with slammers I reckon....especially when lowered heaps at the back.

Dean

Those are 2 sweet looking Fatty's Deano and I reckon those bars look better on these machines.
Thanks for the offer on the bars but I got a really good deal packaging all the gear when buying new. I saw a custom with slammers a few weeks ago and I thought they looked really good IMHO. Maybe because of the longer forks and 21" front wheel?

Sounds like a few people have similar views on Frasers - I too struggled to get someone to even acknowledge I was in the shop!

Also great to see a few Aussies on the site

Sounds like a bit of a pattern... you wouldn't believe that they work on commission. I guess there INTUITION ain't that great when it comes to spotting genuine customers from tire kickers... Was it John or Peter that your mate dealt with?

Dean

ORIGINAL: grzly

a mate just went to trivetts last week and got his new Dyna when Frasers , the spiritual home of HD in Sydney , blew him off. went riding with him on the weekend and he cannot stop grinning.

I originally went down to Frasers with $15k cash for deposit on a bike in October 06. I went down in shorts, t-shirt and thongs because we were going to go down to la perouse to do some fishing afterwards and the sales guys just ignored me while the three of them chatted amongt themselves. I gave them another 5 minutes and said to my mate that if they didn't approach me by then that he would really enjoy what I did next. They continued to ignore me at which point I approached them with 3 x $5k bundles of $50 notes and said "do you ignore everybody who comes down to put a deposit on a new fatboy or am I special?". They look traumatised and ofcourse one immediately launched into his sales rant... I then said "Mate, you had you chance, I'm off to Trivett now on my way to the beach"... and haven't been back since.

Went straight to Trivett (which is in much posher area of Sydney also) and was immediately greated by a great salesman who answered all my questions at which point I pulled out the money again and asked for a receipt Best thing was that trivett actually had a fire red pearl IN STOCK so Frasers did me a massive favour and saved me a 3 month wait !

Hey DeanO.

Ordered my scoot from Sy's Liverpool. Was going to go with Frasers at Homebush but I bought my Ducati from them and wasn't particularly happy with their post sales antics.

I'd been keen to see pics of your beast with all the bits on it.
I've ordered a few bits also, including V&H BSS pipes, SERT & SE A/C, Brawler soloseat, LED tailightand street slammer bars (plus some chrome bling). Can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Hey, have any of us seen a pic of your bike Scotty? I may have but considering I just took two stillnox 1/2 hour ago to get to sleep... I am buggered if I can remember.

Did you say YOUR LAST BENZ Scotty? Damn.... had I not turned down the first job at Ozemail with stock options in 1997 and done my own thing I might have one too now

DeanO

PS: What do you do for work Scotty? If you need any computer stuff done let me know... had the largest BBS in Australia for 8 years, 4th ISP setup here and over 24 years experience so if you own a business and need computer guru... let me know.

ORIGINAL: scottylj

Daz, I've got the slammers on my Fatboy and love 'em. Go for the braided cables as they finish the job off nicely.

If you are a big bloke you may notice the narrower spacing of the handgrips tends to afford your mirrors a good view of your shoulders (Good for Jorge!) break out the white bonds singlets.

I hear you re Frasers.... I purchased mine through them and it was tense - I dealt with Neil who stuck by me and is a real stand-up guy who I would recommend - I guess it all comes down to available stock as you can get your servicing done anywhere that you are confident/happy with.

I'm looking forward to visiting the new Trivetts showroom, they will have a great workshop (Dyno) and the guys there on the tools know a bit and have been around a while.

As far as parts go Paul at Frasers and David at Triv's have been really good to deal with.

I intend to service my own bike since the 1500 k mark so I don't have any connection to the dealers - this is just a my experience so far.

I know what DeanO is talking about - I got the same treatment when I bought my last Benz but the dealer was punished for it in the end - just go straight to the Principal and give it to him with both barrels.[sm=shootshoot.gif]

But then again there few motor sales and real estate types who you would feed let alone allow your dog to bite![sm=trust_me.gif]

I bought small skull / flame mirrors from our mates at DEMONSCYCLE. They are chipped factory second looking pieces of crap but more importantly WAY TOO SMALL.... you could have police behind you and you wouldn't know. I suggest staying with stock ones (which look ok I reckon) or at least a similar size glass portion.

DeanO

Hey Scott.
Good point about the cables. I have ordered the diamondback set as recommended by the shop and hope they will look OK.
Did not think too much about the mirrors so I will have to wait and see.
On another note it seems that there are a few threads about SERT for 08 bikes not yet available. I'm hoping to get my full kit on when picking the bike up but that may be difficult if the 08 spec sert is not out (also have the 103" kit being installed).

PS. I did meet Neil from Frasers and I agree he seems to know his stuff. Thanks for the names for parts as it is good to know as I'm sure I'll be adding a fe items once I get approval from the finance officer (wife)

I ordered them last Wednesday and got them 5 days later on the MONDAY... packed well and the shipping was through the us postal service and delivered to my door for less than $20US in big box with auxiliary lighting and spare bulbs. Will be installing them and the new Carlini bars today! Bypassed customs complete becuase under $1k. I am getting my wheel sent back as seperate lots.

Even if customs do get them there is no duty on 98% of stuff... only frames and a couple of other things. But they slug you $100 or more for customs clearance fee then send it by AUstralia post... so then you hope it doesn't get lost.

Ronnie Lewis from Ronnie Lewis Custom Cycles in Kentucky is my 100% recommendation and I get EVERYTHING though him now. He will sort out your shipping issues and answer ANY questions. I have spent over $6k with this guy already... couldn't recommend him any higher! He's the best! mailto:lewis_custom_cycles@yahoo.com

DeanO, as usual you are a fountain of information both relevant and entertaining.
Thanks for the tips, I will PM you with answers to your questions soon.

I will get off my **** and take some pictures of my scoot. Mines just a stocky FLSTF thats been stage 1'd with S/Slammers, braided bits, Mini bullet led's up front, layback plateframe, side toolbox, sissy bar, relocation kit and a weekday badlander seat.

In the words of Dr Evil : "Pretty standard really"

------------------------------------------------------------

But I digress....

As a concerned fellow cyclist I am worried that you may be doing a bit of naked midnight riding while floating on the Stilnox pillow.

I can recognise the tell-tale symptoms 'cause I've been there too - I'm here to help you big guy.

To be sure the Midnite Cowboy only plays home games, can you reset the B trip meter on the sled and hide the Kings Park Maccas VIP card before you passout each night.

The trip meter will serve as some form of record that can be drawn upon during the intervention and the VIP card will sport a few less holes punched in it!

We wont persue the shopper dockets at this stage.......

Oh, and those sesame seeds you have been finding in your bed.... aren't from muesli bars - sorry to break it to you like this.

Regards,
