Default What if...

I have an 07 night train with SE slip on mufflers. I just ordered a SE air filter kit. The more I read about it the more it is becoming clear that I need to remap my ECUand get a power commander. How will it run if I do not remap the PC afer I put on the new stage 1 air filter kit? Will it damage my engine? I know the obvious answer is just to put it on and find out. I was hoping someone could tell me from experance. It seems to run ok with the stock setting and the SE slip ons..... Any help would be great. Thanks!

everyone i talk to tells me that you MUST install a sert/pc3/thundermax, etc if you are going to do an AC. the increase in air flow makes the bike run WAYYY to lean, which will damage the bike. I have on 07 NT and have asked this very question at about 5 dealerships just to verify everything i have been hearing..it is sad but true

Not sure why it's "sad but true", except for the additional cost, but it's worthwhile to get the motor running right. These bikes run too lean to start, so I'd say it would even be worthwhile to install one and tune even a stock motor without the stage 1 upgrades. It's a small price to pay, taken into perspective... you've spent thousands of dollars for your bike - what's another few hundred to make it run right???

the reason i said sad but true is because with older models you could just dl a map to the bike and be done with it. with 07s and newer, you need to add a race tuner on top of the AC, then you need to hav gthe bike dynoed..instead of a few hundred for an AC, you have about a thousand.

ok thats what I thought. I will leave the Air clener kit in the box till I getsome kind of fuel pak or power commander. It seems that the model that most people recommend is the power commander 111.
