My 1996 Harley soft tail sat for a couple of years due to an injury. It wouldn't start up. It was running well the last time I fired her up. I didn't run her carb dry the last time I parked her as I didn't figure on getting hurt. I decided to pull the carb as I figured it got shellac inside from sitting. I removed the two manifold breather bolts to get everything out of the way.and one sheared off. As you know the bolts are hollow inside and connected by a pipe.
How do I get out the broken bolt? I don't need to do the drilling part as there's a hole. Even so, I've never dealt with drilling and tapping a standard solid bolt either. Will applying a little heat with a narrow soldering iron help? I do have a little purchase sticking out to try and turn it. I just don't wand any fragments getting inside the head. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Easy outs and use the biggest that will fit the hole so you don't drive it in deep. Common problem those bolts are pot metal most times. Amazon or the local chain auto parts store will several types.
Okay! Got that puppy out! I was able to grab hold of the bolt with a narrower pair of pliers I heated the head a little bit with a heat gun away from the carb and finally got it out. What a relief that is.! I ordered a new pair of breather bolts.
