One last Question.. The skull tank badge shown here

Is that a harley part... Might you have the part number.... I likey!
Here you go. Makes a big difference. Much better than that cheap piece of plastic that it comes with stock. This one is real leather, with a plastic backing underneath to protect it from water damage.

Part number: 91001-01
Thank You Very Much!

yes, thank you. my uncle was awarded the purple heart (my bad) after his tour. My other uncle got sent to guam. go figure.

back on topic, i did not know braided came in black. I went with the stainless ones and think i will stick with them because they will accent my black bars better, but on the other hand, maybe completely balcked out would look sweet...hmmm..

Citoriplus I chuck my bolts up in a drill press to get the high-speed, high heat needed to polish.
A SS polish like white rouge compound will polish those acorns like chrome.

crock921,
Powdercoated bolts have the same limitations as chrome. Normally powder coated steel is well protected from the elements. But the problems start when you use a wrench on them. It can chip or stress crack the coating, just like chrome thus letting moisture it under it. If you want powder coated or black bolts you might consider having stainless steel fasteners coated as even if they get slightly damaged. Moisture won't start rust under it, at least not nearly as fast as common carbonsteel.

PS, I'm not so sure I like the idea of a 'completely' blacked out bike. Stealth is fine forAir Force planes, but cagers have a bad enough time seeing us. No need to make it even harder for them to notice us on the road especially at night. A sparkleing diamond is a lot harder to 'overlook' than a lump of charcoal in the dark.

Chops,
Thanks for the tip and link, that's about what I figured would be necessary. I just need to get a polishing or buffing wheel for my grinder to use on the flats. Fortunatly the nuts I found have a reasonably decent finish on them already so it won't take a ton of work to shine them up nice.
BTW your right Ace does have a better selection than Home Despot, or Lowes. They even stock a bit of chrome hardware if you want to go that way.

Also I noticed on your web page that you were "working" on a run, turn, brake light setup. I may have something for you there. PM or e-mail me your e-mail address and I can send you a couple of pages of plans and wiring diagrams for converting front signal assembly's into rear's. You still need red lenses or 1157 equivlent red LED's and a controller to get it to function as a turn/brake but it gives you the extra bulb filiment to act as a run light while still retaining the dual intensity for the turn/brake.
I like your bike, not much of a fan of those really big rear fenders, but I think yours looks particularlynice painted up in all black like that. BTW Is that one of those document tubes mounted under the tool box on the right side of your bike?

Purple star? I think you mean Purple Heart, for getting wounded. I don't think there is a Purple Star, at least I don't believe I ever heard of it before.
BTW That's the one award I qualified for (barely, to my way of thinking) but refused to accept, I was afraid that when my mother found out about it, cause they published awards like thein the local paper. She would not hesitate to marchover to kick andbeat the snot out of me for being careless with her oldest boy, I'm not kidding. That little red headed Irish lady, all 5 foot and 120lbs of her was afraid of absolutly no one and would have kicked the hell out of me. Guy's I went to school with who were easily a foot or more taller and more than double her size would try to hide in acorner when she got ticked off and started to verbally rip them a new one.

Nice Train Mister B, always loved theBlack Denim Train. I settled for an 07 FXST.
Youput Rush slipons on her and I've been looking at several makes of slipons myself. Did you have any mounting problems and did you use your stock header w/crossover? J&P Cyclestells me the Rush slipons (PN440-961)won't work. Says the will fit up to model yr. 06 and not 07. I think they will and itseems you've proven me right, as far as I can tell from your pics.
Please let me know how things went, thanks!

Thanks, man. The FXST is a great classic bike too.

The slipons were just plug and play. It still uses the stock header and crossover. Took hardly any time at all. I went with the 2" baffles. I've heard that if you go over that, then you'll have to fiddle with your ECM, and then you may as well get a high flow A/C, and THEN you may as well get a Power Commander, and THEN you may as well take out a second mortgage to pay for everything.

I bought my Rush slipons from my local Harley dealer. If yours doesn't stock them, they carry them at http://www.fuelmotousa.com

By the way, I have never been too impressed with J&P. Their web site is a mess, and their live people that help you place an order don't seem to be much help either. I could hear the guy I was talking to flipping through pages of a catalog, vs simply looking it up in a system, verifying that they'll fit my bike, and then taking care of the order.
