Put the HD oil cooler on my bike this weekend. Just a note, in the area where the hose clamps go, put some short pieces of heat shrink tube. Otherwise the clamps will cut into the hose.Another thing to consider, when you put the chrome cover on the oil cooler, space it so it doesn't rest up against the fins. Vibration will tend to wear thru the cooler tubes. If you put some consideration into the location of the clamp screws, it will be possible to tighten them later if necessary. The next issue is, Does the cooler help? At certain speeds, yes. On some test runs I saw about a 10 degree drop in my oil temp with the cooler. Do I believe it works good enough? Not realy. I see it as a comprimise between looks and function.
Don't think I would buy one now, based on the results of this one. My wife has a 2007 just like mine, and we put the sert on hers with Rush mufflers and SE air kit. The remap cooled hers down much more than the oil cooler did mine.
I have thought about an oil cooler. Everyone claims 20 degrees drop in temp. My analog gauge highest reading is about 245. I have never seen it above 250. I am sure a tuner would make a difference. I can cruise down interstate at 80-85 and my temp will read 240-245. I have sit in traffic in the heat of summer, but guage never has been over 245. My bike never has shut down, or been in over heat mode.
i put this one on my bike and i got a 20Deg drop on my FXSTC. i know i did not like the HD cooler becouse the cooling area is not as big as the cooling area i got with mine. here is a picture of it
I was considering one too until I talked to the parts guy at one of the local dealers. He is a mechanic on the side and a very good guy (he fixes the older bikes). He said not to bother that the running temp will not drop significantly enough for me to notice. The bike will run at a certian temp period.
I was thinking about putting the HD oil cooler on, I have the Tmax on my SE Springer now and still see some high oil temps with the 110 engine, whatever the oil cooler does for the oil temp can't hurt......
Here's another option. Jireh cycles for around a $100. That included the cooler, braided lines and hose fittings. My 93 Fatboy with Mobile 1 doesn't get any hotter the 185. Down side is no thermostat.
