Just swapped out engine oil, synthetic 20W50.
I noted that engine oil targetted at cars is half the price of motorcycle oil.
Really - is there a difference?

Shop wisely my friend. When it is on sale it is a very good price. Less than $5.50 a Qt

There are many, many opinions out there and yet it seems like no one really has a handle on the oil debate.
I have used Mobil1 15W-50 in all my bike crankcases for decades. I use a heavier gear oil in the tranny.

Yup...when a question has decades worth of real world experience/evidence from which to draw a conclusion and yet no discernible consensus is ever reached, that's how you know that the argument itself is largely a waste of time, lol. There've been bikes on the road for forever and a day, decades longer than most of us currently riding have been alive...if there were some universal "use this, NOT that" truth to it, then by this point it would be common knowledge, and the debate wouldn't exist.

Oil always turns into a big debate. Never understood why. Some feel the need to hit others over the head with their brand and their reasons for using while telling the other guy how wrong he is. Others go so far as to have their oil analyzed and post that as evidence of how smart they are or how much more they care about their "investment".
Personally, I've used several brands in the last 22 years on my 2002 Fat Boy. Synthetic and dino. Everything from HD's dino to Royal Purple to Walmart synthetic and several in between. It's never blown up. It's never left me alongside the road. Those are the results that count for me.
