Its been said often the the stock seats on our rides are low quality, but i actually found that the stock Heritage seat fits my butt pretty good, and I like the looks of it. I just would really like a backrest, preferably one that is quick deatachable.
anyyhoo my point...
I had my seat off today and noticed that there seems to be a "dent" in the top of my battery. The dent coincides with the rubber bumper on the bottom of the seat pan. I suppose when HD realized that the thin seat pan flexed too much, this hard rubber bumper was the answer from the genius pool.
I'm not really a lightweight at 210lbs, but I know there are some that outweigh me by more than just a few pounds. I can't imagine that having all of my weight on a 1"round bumper on the battery is doing it any good..
I wonder if anyone has ever had a cracked battery.....damn what a mess that would be.
I reckon the stock seat will be going into the storage shed as soon as I can decide which seat to try....
Well, I'm a lightweight at 203 but haven't noticed any more than the round circle mark that my Springer seat makes on the battery. I just changed out the original battery a couple of months ago and it didn't show any wear other than the circle....but my seat is also supported by 2 bolts into the back fender that is attached to the seat rail. That may have made the difference vs. your seat set-up.
The pre 99 (Evo) Softails had a wide rubber strap holding the battery down.
I've noticed that little dent (mostly in the label too.) My Corbin seat has the bumper.
