I bought our 2015 slim some years back, it is a great bike. I rode it for couple of years before I got my RGS, my wife rides it now and she loves it. She did test ride a newer heritage with a 114 and she really liked it, she said it seemed 'more substantial' for touring, whether she meant the larger motor, bags fairing/windshield, I'm not sure.
We plan to retire in a couple of years and travel to different states as much as we can on our bikes. She keeps mentioning how much she liked riding that heritage, and I keep thinking about how I can get her one of those and keep our softail slim so I feel your pain.
