Default 2004 Fxsti turn signal issue

Hi guys, hopefully 1 of you can shed a bit of light on an issue my bike has.

Both of the left hand turn signals are not working. The light on the dash also doesn't work. There is no response from any of the 3, when I press the left turn signal switch or when I press both switches for hazard lights or when the alarm/immobiliser is armed/disarmed. The 3 bulbs do not illuminate at all.

The right hand side works perfectly in all operations.

The previous owner has fitted LED turn signals to the rear. Also, there is an LED tail/stop light in the rear fender & a LED side mount tail/stop light. There is 1 LED load equaliser fitted.

Do I need to fit another load equaliser? I am thinking about going back to standard non-LED turn signals, in which case another load equaliser wouldn't be necessary.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated,
Cheers guys.

Test for power exiting the equalizer on the "left leg"

I have had an early equalizer fail causing all sorts of turn signal glitches....

I would suggest removing the equalizer, and see if full function returns. The dash turn signals will hyper flash, but if full signal function returns, your problem is the equalizer...

Then you can just get a new one, and keep the LED lights.

FWIW... I have converted/run all my bikes to LED turn signals and tail lights since 2005. Usually the first thing I did to a new-to-me bike. Except for one burned out HD LED turn signal bulb, and one failed equalizer, all is well... Not bad for 5 bikes with a cumulative 37 years of ownership with LED lights...

Not disagreeing with the comments above about the equalizer.

But I’d check the turn signal switch. As in power to it, and power out of it.

Thanks guys, all suggestions are welcome. Going to have a look at it over the weekend. If anyone else can think of something else it might be, maybe tssm module? Cheers.

Obviously it could be the TSSM, but after making sure it's not an issue with the equalizer, I would check the left turn signal switch for power in/power out as foxtrapper suggested...

Default TSSM fault

After a trip to my local bike shop, the fault was diagnosed as a bad TSSM.

I got hold of a used TSSM 68925-00C, which matches my old part number exactly. However, I wasn't provided with either the 5 digit pin or a matched fob to go with it. It seems all TSSM 's with part numbers -07 onwards can be "broken into" to get matched with the ECU via a computer. Unfortunately, pre 07 cant be done (even by my local HD dealer).

I then bought a TSM 68921-01C & managed to manually match it to the ECU. Problem solved. Obviously I made sure that both were Y axis modules.

I hope anyone reading this finds it useful 🙂

These older Harleys are a dieing breed simpley do to no parts for a electrical part on them. There have been numerous new threads on this issue.

This is the 6th I have added to my resources.

Default Tssm/Tsm

Seems a shame that Harley see a 20 year old bike is not worthy of spare parts. You can get an alternative Badlands part, but it will only work with an aftermarket ignition!

A dealer I spoke to said they're seeing more & more people coming in with the same issue. Apparently an alternative is to make your own dedicated turn signal circuit & wire it in alongside the TSSM/TSM. Handy if you know an auto electrician.

I assume it's because Harley want people to buy new bikes. However, we are not all in a position to afford one!

I have heard a rumor, I believe it's Custom Dynamics, that is working on a TSM replacement and should be available after the first of the year...

If true, they should make a pretty good profit. There is definitely a need.

I know Quantum Fuel Systems is doing well selling Harley replacement fuel pump systems....
