I bought a used 09 Custom (FXSTC) that came with V&H Short Shots... I HATE the note of the short pipes, and want to get longer 2:1. My instinct is to go Thunderheader, but they are really $$$
What other variants have similar note/performance?
Anyone wanna swap their 2:1 for some shorties???
I just noticed that my sig says 08... it's an 09, I must have been drunk when I set my sig block. (granted, no diff in the exhausts between the 2)

I used to have the V&H big shot shorts on my Deuce, swapped those out years back for a used D&D fatcat. Much happier with the 2:1, except it's getting to be a bit much for me on long rides after all these years, but that's a personal problem. Too many years of un-corked V8s, guns, and rock concerts catching up to me. Ears ring all damned day, after a ~100 mile ride, even with plugs in. Stupid tinnitus.
Thunderheaders are nice, love the sound, hate the price for new. I've heard good things about the V&H pro pipe, too, but haven't ridden anything with one myself so I can't comment.
OP, don't limit yourself to 2:1 systems; the "drone" of a 2:1 at cruise I find very annoying although I ran them for years. I finally switched to 2:1:2 and/or 2:2 sytems for that reason. Look for a used set of V&H or Python Long Shots; I have seen them go for about $250 but they are hard to find and if/when you run across a set you have to act fast. If you are stuck on a 2:1 system, look for a used Python 3 which was the V&H Propipe "knock off" sold by Drag Specialties as one of their "house" pipes. Again, hard to find but a good performing pipe.

I like TH's too. But yeah . . . $$$$$$ !!! I like the looks of that FatCat. Any truth to the heat from the rear cyl, the way that rear pipe is routed ?
FatCat sounds good too.

Well, I've never once thought to myself "I should look into a Captain Itch shield" with this bike. So I guess it's not an issue for me anyway.
I have the Bassani Road Rage 2 on my 08 FXSTC. When I bought the bike used from to PO it had Samson 2n2 pipes. It looked great but it was way to loud for me.
Man, I would save for the TH! If my plans work out to get another Dyna in the garage, I am going to get the TH this time after I get the cam chest done.
I went with the Bassani Road Rage 2 on my last one, and re-wrapped the baffle with some FMF muffler packing in hopes to get a deeper tone. It was okay, but I still wanted that Thunderheader!

This is exactly what I am worried about... I know there are many lower cost 2:1, but I hate the idea of spending 500-750 to then spend the next few years wishing that I had just bit the bullet.
I was HOPING someone would say "Bro, this xyz sounds so similar for half the $$$" LOL
