I'm not a veteran Harley owner but this bike (M8 motor) doesn't have an oil tank so how is it a dry sump motor? Not to disagree with you but the oil goes into a pan not a tank. Anyway, I followed the owner's manual and input here on correct oil levels and adjustments and after a 200-mile ride was down on levels significantly, plus smelling oil burning from the exhaust. Anyway, I have an extended warranty and just going to ride it till she quits, too old now to stress about it.
Please watch the two videos I posted above. I believe you will find them interesting, and useful, especially given the situation you are experiencing.
btw, your M8 engine is a dry sump, and it does have an oil tank. If you are pulling the drain plug on the bottom of the engine pan, you should not be getting more than 8 oz out of there.

Kevin
? I'm getting near 4-QUARTS.
I've watched dozens of videos just to accumulate myself to this issue. My oil consumption issue seems to be related to riding at high elevation and high temps, so now I'm just going to ride her till she blows. Going on a long ride tomorrow and will check the level when returning home and add if necessary. Thank you (everyone) for your input

If you are getting almost 4 quarts of oil when you pull the drain plug, you are draining oil from the tank that sits below the transmission, not the pan that sits below the engine.
Here is a diagram of your 2023 Fat Boy.
Sounds like your oil is overfilled. The following video gives some tips on the peculiarities of getting an accurate reading on the oil dipstick.
btw, on the noise you mentioned...if they found a problem with the rocker shaft and out of round pistons...why not get it fixed under warranty?
Well, the wife and I did a long ride yesterday and upon returning home (after 100-miles straight) I let it idle two-minutes then checked the oil (over filled). Sucked out 8-ounces) took it out for another 5-miles while hot and it was in the normal range when checked again.
This is just nuts, my Jap sport bikes were not this complicated. Now that Harley went woke my local dealer closed the doors and my bike value dropped 50%. I think the end is finally near for this brand. At least I can say that I owned a Harley that my dad and uncles rode after returning from WW2. Life can be aggravating.
husky - dump the M8 or whatever it is called and buy a 90's evo softail - the earley 90's crank breather Evo bikes share the true harley ancestry that your uncles and old wrenches built and road through hell in the 60's and 70's - in my opinion - the Twin Cam introduction broke the lineage - chain driven cams - gerotor oil pumps - balancers - pressed cranks - these are not your fathers Harleys - anyway - the Harley you want is out thee - its just not what Harley has become - it is what it was.......
