Always owned and built Dynas and baggers. Ive always loved the Deuce and I'm looking to add one to the garage if I can find the right one.

From what I understand the 1st year was available with an EVO and really what I'd like to find.. Otherwise it seems some suggest the later years of the Deuce to buy.

From Deuce owners, whats your take on them?

 

I am happy with my '05 but get used to reading "fits every Harley ever made except the Deuce"; the red-headed step child of the softail family.

 

Yeah, on this one I'm looking for stock condition and less owners the better. Finding stock is going to be hard at this point, but less is better. I'm sure most will have an exhaust swap.

My Dyna and Streetglide are my built HD rippers. This one I just want a bar hopper and not looking to do much aftermarket.

 

There was never a Deuce offered with an Evo, only twinkie. First year was 2000, which is what I have. Great bike, but yeah get used to "except FXSTD" on accessories. The drive train, brakes, suspension are typical Softail at least, so there's no issues there as far as parts/maintenance.

Tins, seats, and frame are unique, though I've read the tank is the same as the Rocker used. There's also differences in electrical bits, between years of Deuce...specifically the speedometer comes to mind. I forget the exact year splits off hand. 03 and 07 come to mind, but 07 was also the last year of the Deuce.

 

One more thing; If you do hold-out for a later year Deuce? The '07 is the only Deuce to come with the 6spd trans and TC96. All other years (00-06) are 88s with 5 speeds, though you can get carb or EFI on those.

 

Yeah, I didn't think they were around for an evo. Sweet alot of great info and I appreciate it.

 

No worries! Any other questions, toss 'em out here. I'm certain @djl and I aren't the only two Deuce owners left. There's a wealth of knowledge, and I'm sure we can collectively assist with anything.

A couple other Deuce oddities I remembered; The tail lamp is shared with the Vrod. The CVO models came with the 95" big bore kit, 203 cams and dual front disc brakes.

Are you sure the frame is different?

Compatible parts I "know" fit.
Fatboy '00 to '06 floor board mounts (I hate forward controls for more than 15 minutes seat time and went floor boards)
Fatboy stock exhaust is same as Deuce stock exhaust

Honestly can't remember 100%, just erring on the side of caution. My failing memory says the additional neck angle was in the frame, not the trees, but I'm probably wrong. Same with the rear swingarm being Deuce-specific. There's differences where the rear fender supports mount-up on the frame (If I could bolt-on swap-out the rear horns and fender for a standard FXST ducktail & luggage rack, I would've).

The 'core' of the frame is no different, since the drivetrain and rear shocks, etc. are all the same. The front forks have much nicer looking sliders and trees, but they're still run of the mill 41mm forks that use the same Progressive monotube kit as a regular FXST.

 

Personally, I would look for a 5 speed. The 32/66 final drive gear ratio on the 6 speeds is ****
