Default O ring size

Looking for the o ring size for the clutch oil drain plug and if you know the Harley P/N. that would be great. Went to the local idiot dealer and they gave me the wrong one. It is for a 2005 Softail Deluxe fuel injected. Thanks in advance.

Here's what the H-D website has to say for part number 12 -- PN 11324 (highlighted in the image below. Doesn't say a size, but it's pretty small.

Short answer... Your 2005 Softail uses o-ring #11324... As Tcrafty said, it is smaller than the standard drain plug o-ring, which the parts guy most likely gave you.

To avoid confusion, the proper terms should be used. The "clutch oil" on a softail is contained in the primary case, and is called primary oil, or primary fluid. The "clutch oil drain plug" is called the primary drain plug.

While stupid parts guys exist all over, just for Twin Cams, there were 3 different primary drain plugs, dependent on year....

First primary drain plug, '00-'03, was a pipe plug. It had no O-ring.

The second drain plug, '04-'06, was a smaller version of the standard HD drain plug. it was drain plug assembly #60391-04. It took o-ring #11324, which is a very small o-ring.

The third primary drain plug, started in '07. Harley decided to use the standard HD drain plug and o-ring used for engines and transmissions (since around '98) for the primaries too. It is drain plug assembly #60328-98B and uses o-ring #11105. This o-ring is bigger than the earlier #11324.

I don't know off-hand the standard size of the #11324 o-ring, but the drain plug o-ring #11105 is the standard o-ring size, # 013. I order them by the pack (I maintain 4 HD bikes) and use Viton o-rings instead of Buna.

I may be off a little in the years the various plugs were used, but as you can see, the year of your softail will dictate what size, if any, primary drain plug o-ring you will need. Since they went to the standard drain plug in 2007, a young and/or inexperienced parts guy wouldn't know the difference...

More than you wanted to know, but sometimes I can't help myself...

I hope this info helps or at least is informative...
