Default Flush mount fuel gauge issue

Recently replaced factory fuel gauge on my 2017 Softail Slim S with HD's flush mount one. I also changed out the speedo with a Dakota Digital model MVX-2011. I did not use the flush mount cap as I already have an aftermarket cap installed.

The LED's in the HD one do not seem to match up with the fuel light on the speedo. The last couple times I've noticed while on the side stand the light on the speedo turns on with about 4 LED's lit. I usually don't go very far after that without fueling up as I don't want to run out. Since both were changed out at the same time, I have no idea which one is actually correct.

Does anyone have any issues with the flush mount not being accurate?

Can't help you in the least - But that is one wild fuel cap!

Good luck with getting it straightened out, I'm sure someone here will fix you up.

Yeah it was on the bike when I purchased it. I'm assuming it's actually for a Road King since it has RKN on it. Road King Nation maybe?

It's all for looks anyway. I have one and my biggest problem is 2 non functioning LED's. As far as accuracy, you can forget that.

Obviously it’s often not a wise idea to change out two relative things at the same time as if something is not right you really don’t know which one if either is causing the problem.

However my flush mounted gauge on my Heritage has never been accurate.
I don’t pay much attention to it any more but I seem to recall that all lights go out with about 1/3 full.

My HD speedo/tach on both my Heritage and Freewheeler are fairly accurate.
Both show empty with about 2/3 of a gallon left in the tank.

Mine is actually the opposite. When the fuel light on the speedo goes on there's 4 LED's still lit up on the fuel gauge.

Mine was pretty spot on between the led lights and the stock gauge on my RKC. You can also do a flush mount cap too. They should both be reading the from the same data. I think I would fill the tank and ride for a while and see which one I trust the most.

Personally I prefer to track mileage instead of depending on the gauge.

I have (had) the flush gauge/cap kit on all three of the below rides. The FatBoy doesn't count for this discussion as the left "cap" is a blank.

The Blue LED's always showed the fuel level with the same accuracy as the original HD system. I.E. The Yellow warning light comes on when one or two of the LED's are lit. When I stop to refuel, the pumped amount shows that I had 1'sh gallons left in the tank. I've stretched it to no LED's lit and the pumped amount showed I had between 1/3 to 1/4 gallon left. The blue LED's are not any more inaccurate than the HD EMC/BCM allows.

But, if you're testing yours and your 6 gallon tank take 5.75 gallons to refill when it showed 4 lit LED's. 🤷‍♀️

The biggest problem I've had with this kit is opening the cap when my hands are wet or without removing my leather gloves first.

P. S. The second biggest problem I have with this kit is the price.

HD fuel gauges aren't accurate. Never have been, probably never will be. And those LED's trying to indicate fuel level are just another reason I'd avoid the flush caps. I wouldn't even pay attention to it.

However, what you should be concerned about is your paint, do you wash it with the red or the green scotch brite pad?
