Looking at installing my V&H BR 2:1 before I do the Thundermax and high flow. I can see the O2 sensor wire routed under the oil tank but cannot see the connector. Anyone have advise as to how to get to that connector. The Thundermax has it's own O2's so I should have no problems as long as I can get to that connection.
Sorry, I shouldhave mentioned I have an 08FXSTC.
I can tell you that the 07 is attached to the bottom of the battery case, located inside the oil tank. It is held in place by a plastic clip into which the connector slides. It is much easier to see with the flashlight of by taking the battery out. You will not need it for the Thundermax, but you will have a cap to put over the end to keep it clean.
Will I need to take the battery and the battery tray out? Sounds like it may be more involved than I thought. Is the connector the pinch and pull type? Thanks for the info.
Unless they changed it for the 08's it should be right under the left side of the oil tank. It's not hard to get to at all. You can reach in with your finger and undo the clip and pull it out a bit to undo the connector. I have had two 07's and gotten to it on both this way. I have never had to take the battery out.
As mentioned. You use a flashlight you can see it under there. It clips to the bottom of the oil tank. Left side.
You shouldn't need to take the battery out. Get on your knees and stick your hand under there, you will feel the connector. It doesn't pop straight down to the ground, so grab it and rotate it while pushing and pulling side to side. One of those ways, it will pop off of the plastic "nub" w/out breaking. I pulled thepigtail that gets capped off up through the frame and tucked it under the seat at the front of the seat. There should be plenty of slack in the line. I had to coil mine about two times to get the slack out. I just took the other part, the O2 sensor w/ pig tail out completely and plugged my pipe. I suppose you could always leave the O2 sensor in your new pipes if you have the hole for it as opposed to plugging it. Either way, that's all there is to it. Use loctite anti sieze when you put the sensors or just plugsback in new pipes.
I saw this and one other advice column to unclip the rear O2 sensor on my 2010 Fatboy. Worked like a charm coming off, my problem now is reconnecting (its a mother). The wire is just too short to pull past the clip to allow it to slide back on and the over the muffler under the oil tank hand position is insanly difficult to try to swivel the plug back onto the holding clip. Anybody have a good way to reconnect the rear O2 Sensor? Wanna fire up the new V&H Big Radius I just attached and the rear O2 Sensor is the last problem.

Will it reach if you leave the plug unclipped under the oil tank??
