Default Found a Keeper ‘92 Fat Boy

Just added this beautiful machine to the garage. I’ll be removing all of the touring setup components and taking it to stock. However, will change the bars, install a brake pedal that accommodates my size 13’s, go to LED’s (if it’s easy on an old bike like this), change seat, and go to a slim quick release windshield. I’m going to resist anything that isn’t 100% reversible.

This bike has 9500 miles on it and was owned by an aircraft mechanic who bought it from his father in-law who bought it new. Has a factory HD service manual and original owner’s manual including the original paper sleeve.

I’m psyched to get acquainted and sell all of the misc gear he has on there. I’m sure I’ll be seeking help from the EVO experts in here!

Very nice looking fat boy. Enjoy

I bought a 91 a few years back, very much the same story as yours. I bought it off the second owner, he had owned it since Sept. of 91. Bike was in excellent cond. low km. im thinking it was around 20, 000 miles. It had the spot lights, windshield, stock exhaust and backrest. I took it all off, put on different handle bars, a set of turnout mufflers and led front signals.

Very nice! Are those slip-ons? If so, which are they?

I’ve got a ‘98 with 124 V-Series engine and a ton of other components built right hot rod for sure so this ‘92 will be the calmed version. Ha. The hot rod is very cool and a true beast, but I’m going to sell it.

I noticed your brake pedal also hits about 2/3 of the way down the floorboard. I found it really weird positioning such that I have to lift my entire foot up onto the pad. I’m size 13+ so that position doesn’t work for me. I’m going to install an extended pedal as long as I can find one for this bike.

Have you considered that?

How do people own beautiful classic bikes like that and only ride them 2 or 300 miles A YEAR?
Really, what are they doing? Just staring at them in the garage each day or not concerning themselfs at all with them for years at a time?
Working on them, improving but never really appreciating it as a motorcycle, more like a painting.
Glad it happens, they are my source for purchasing but
always wondred about garage queens.

Yeah, it’s interesting for sure. Bikes that have been sitting require a lot of attention to initially get into shape but as you said, I’m glad they’re out there for sure. This guy rode the bike from Denver to Sturgis last year so that was good to hear. Aside from stripping all of the touring stuff, it only needs a front tire and an oil change.

I agree.
I have a 1983 I bought with 11,000! miles on it.
In showroom condition, but even if it sat in a showroom for over 40 years every single piece of rubber has to replaced to begin with.
Even with historical plates it has 17,000 now.
Highly recommend historical plates.

No i never really considered it. It does make the brake pedal a little cramped when using. If it was my main bike, i might look into something different.

I believe in 2002 they stretched out the rear brake pedal for easier use. Dont know what all was involved in that, if it was just a longer rear brake lever or if there was more to it.

I’m looking for an early Evo Fatboy. Black with the gray HD tank emblem and red stripe.. East TN area. The more stock the better. PM me please if anyone knows of one. Been looking for a while and all I’m finding are neglected ones.
