Default fuel-pak question

Have an 06' Fatboy with vance and hines short shot staggered pipes and a screamin eagle air filter kit along with the stage 1 download. All this was done prior to picking the bike up from the dealer back in 06. Just installed a fuel-pak and cant seem to dial it in. Does anyone out there have the same set-up I have or similar and having the same results with the fuel-pak. For one thing, there is no setting for this set-up in the fuel-pak charts. When I contacted Vance and hines they told me to use the fuel-pak settings for the 05' because there was never none for the 06. They have been very helpful trying to get me dialed in but every time i call my settings change and i write them down so I dont forget them. Still having problems with the uncertain sound it makes between shifting and while deceling. They cured my popping and back-firing problems. Still to keep calling back till its all set. They are awesome to deal with. Has anyone having or had the same problem i'm having. What was done to get it fixed. Need some advice and thank you for reading. Ray

The fuel pak is not nearly as configureable as the pwr commander or others. Your stuck with there maps only, no adjustment available on your part.

Part of your challenge is to get your FuelPak to "adjust"for what the dealer did to your ECU in the name of a "Stage 1" download. I'm sure this is where V&H is "guessing" a bit for you too. I don't know if all dealers use the same codes for a generic stage-1 ECU change, or whether they have wiggle-room to change what gets downloaded to your ECU.

Like you said,V&H ARE great people to deal with, stay in touch with them and be patient. The FuelPak is full of magical tweaks, just none of us know anything about which tweak does what. I wouldn't experiment on your own. Very wise to write-down exactly what each mode setting is.

If they haven't already suggested, it may be worth making sure that your Mode 21 (throttle motion calebration) is good. Everything going on inside the FuelPak computer is very decisive about where the throttle is. Having a "good" calebration in Mode 21 is important.

I am very happy with my FuelPak (for the price-point) and have learned to live with a few imperfections. I get the occasional pop and decel gurgle (mini-pops) that basically doesn't bother me anymore.

You may want to have the dealer remove the download and go back tothe stock ECM MAP. I have heard that many people have much better results with the Fuel Pac with stock ECMs.

I have installed a couple on my friends bikes with stock ECMs and SE A/C and V & H Pipes and we have had great results.

This doesn't seem right at all. I've got an '06 FLSTI, which is basically the same bike as the Fat Boy. I'm running V & H BSS with a Ness Big Sucker and I've had no problems with my fuelpak. In fact,I went to the V & H website recently and got the latest updates to the settings.

I have an 06 fatboy. I have had no problems with my fuelpak and I have big shots staggered with the SE air kit. It is my understanding the ECM must be stock (not stage 1 download) to work correctly with the standard maps on the V&H web site.

Lookin at the maps on their website, it looks like it all works best with a stock ECM.

I am getting the Fuelpak and AC over the winter.

I have a 06 Heritage with a "Stage 1". I have the same pipes as you. I used the stock settings with mine, no more popping on decel, better accel, good all around. It may not be as configureable as some others, but at a third of the cost I can live with it.
