I very much appreciate all the info from you guys. I know there’s a ton of knowledge in this forum and I have a lot to learn, but definitely looking forward to the process.

As for the ignition systems out there. I’ve been trying to read up on the differences between single fire versus dual. And also trying to understand initial setup/adjustments and timing. Are there systems that are “better” than others in terms of setup and adjusting for “newbies” such as myself? Or is it one of those things that you just stick with recommended install procedures and fine tune from there?

I like several. The 2000i is nice and simple. You can pick the curve you like by the description and it’s close. Use the Voes on an engine like that too. It will help. I will share dual fire sounds better to my ear, single fire runs better. With a 80 incher, under 11:1 and bolt in cam, I’d start at like 30 degrees timing and move up to 32 and see what I got, you might end up even 34. My buddies Dyna with stock pistons and an EV27 liked close to 32 degrees. I say close because I only static timed it. But I didn’t run Voes.

Good deal. From what I’ve read on that setup, seems to be really reliable as well.

I like using the Dynatek 2000P ignition module.. It installs in the original location and utilizes original wiring.. Also keeps the ignition module out of the nose cone and heat.. it's programmable and has 4 selectable ignition curves and dual or single fire.. Believe it or not I still run dual fire on my built 97" Evo.. If you need a new pickup in the nose cone, Standard Motor Products makes one i always use.. You're not going to beat $199 for a 2000P, here's a link to one on eBay https://ebay.us/m/ZMsVXE

and a STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS pick up here, MC-SPA3

https://a.co/d/0evwGiX8

you can use your original coil if you want or you can get a single fire it's up to you I don't see any issue with a dual fire coil.

The dual vs single fire is a topic I don’t think I’ve ever seen a thread discuss. It would be interesting to hear opinions… even better see some kinda measurable results. I especially miss the sound of Dual fire with Shovelheads… too me it glorifies the Po-Ta-Toe sound just a tad more lol.

My personal reasoning is coil saturation under a load.. I’m trying VERY HARD to not let my advice go full race track at every comment lol but it’s where I’ve spent a lot of time doing comparisons because I wanted proof… that being said maybe it doesn’t matter. My reasoning was when I did lots and lots of passes comparing coils my proof was in what coil would not cut out above 6000rpm under a full throttle load. I would test 2-3 coils of even the same brand and model number. Believe it or not there is always a clear winner. Out of 3-4 one will always consistently shine. Then I’d return the others. I use to like the over counter Harley late model softail coils best (1990’s) with a Dyna S ignition (still one of the very best ignitions) these days I’m buying 3-4 Drag specialties high output single coils and then returning what I deem as inferior. When I compared dual vs single I felt the dual coil itself got hotter and performed less well above 6K after a long day. I felt plug faul increased when using dual. But that was many years ago. And things change. I also don’t remember how many duals I used to compare. In truth I’m pretty sure it was only a few. I don’t remember if I revisited it either.

Returns on "used" electrical parts ?
