Default Oil in air cleaner

Ok, Saturday I go to pick up a 2004 Heritage that we bought for my wife. We bought it from an individual. He starts the bike to move to the trailer and goes about 15 feet when the oil cap pops off and oil is pumped out. I called my local dealer and their service department says that the only thing they can think of is that it was overfilled with oil. I take it home and sure enough it is over full. I remove about a 1/2 - 3/4 quart of oil. Warm the motor up and the oil is reading right on the dipstick. Later while cleaning and checking the bike over I notice oil dripping from the air cleaner. I remove the cover and find oil puddled in the cover and the lower half of the filter soaked. I replaced the air filter and took it for a ride. So far I have not removed the cover to check for more oil and we have put about 50 miles on the bike without the oil cap popping off again.

Does this sound like a simple over filling of oil problem, or could it be something more serious? I plan on taking it to the dealer later this week to get it checked over because the seller indicated he would pay to get it fixed.

Thanks in advanced for your help

Yes, overfilling will cause oil to pump out the breathers into the air cleaner.
A common fix is to just run the bike a bit low on oil. Very common.

As above, keep your oil a touch under.

If your bike is wet-sumping it will puke into the air cleaner when it starts up. Sometimes a bad check valve in the oil pump will let oil drain into the crankcase while the bike is parked.
But in your case, since it was overfilled with oil, I'd guess your problem is fixed.
