Default Handling problem

1997 Softail Custom
Problem: Severe "twitch" at higher speeds, most noticable on the interstate.
Had two sportsters in the past, neither did this.
This is my first big twin, first bike with drag bars, solid rear rim, and forward contols.
Fork bearings tight and greased regularly.
Wheel alignment is good front to rear.

Any input or ideas?
Any help would be appreaciated.

Severe "twitch"??
I get that after a week of boozing.

Do you mean wobble?

I ask because I noticed a slight, short lived wobble theother day while making turns, left turns inparticular , going about 20mph and the bike leaning hard into the turn. It wasn't the rear tire losing traction, but a noticable wobble.
I'm kinda thinking maybe tire belt broke or something I don't know.
I'll watch your post for further info.

Your wheels are perfectly in line with each other? That's not right!

Drifter:

I've been trying to figure out how to describe the handling problem.
I still don't really think it's a wobble. I'll try again.
You know what it feels like when an 18 wheeler passes you and cuts right back in?
Air turbulance from all directions. This is kind of what it feels like.
This happens a lot whether there is traffic or not, or on corners or straights.

My 07 fxstc handles like that . Very touchy on the handlebars. I followed a Kawasaki on the road the other day with gusting crosswinds. He appeared to track a straight line while I was all over the place. Narrow front wheel may pick up more input from road conditions causing the problem, or it's the geometry on the front end. Probably combination of the two.I've just adapted to it's twitchy natureand don't worry about it anymore.
