I'm getting different advice from my friends with '07s. I have an '07 Heritage. Some say I can go into 6th gear around 55 mph...others are telling me to wait until I get up to at least 70 mph or I'll be lugging it. When I am cruising at 55-65 mph, it doesn't seem like I'm lugging in 6th gear. Can anyone help?
I don't shift to 6th until I'm going past 65mph and desire to stay up there. Our interstate has plent of streches where the posted limit is 70mph. If I'm out there crusing to get to my next set of back roads, I'll use 6th as a wonderful place to rest while out there on the boring slab.
Your mentioned speeds are still good for 5th, even 4th.
I have the 07 Heritage and I shift mine into 6th gear at 60 mph without lugging my engine at all and I could shift into 6th at 55 mph if I feel the need to and still no lugging my engine. I have a pcIII, big shots long, big sucker. Now,before any of the add on's I could not shift into 6th gear until around 65 mph without lugging my engine. I really think it depends on what you have done to your engine.
I've thought about this same question. 6th seems OK at 55 but much better at 60.
The tough one in my opinion is at 50. 4th seems to be revving but 5th sounds like it's lugging ( or is it just that infamous 5th gear noise that I'm hearing ) ???
Re: 6th gear- Confused as well on teh 6th gear issue myself. I ws told by stealer 6th is for 70 mph or over however, I 'd like to run 6th at 65. (Have not put on my Thundermax unit yet- not sure if that would make a diff in this area or not?) Have SE AC soon to be K&N unit < Have taken of football AC cover and feel that change was beneficial in overall operation of motor. Also have SERT and V&H BSS.
So- what's the "Right thing to do" as far as 6th gear, is it strictly for running 70 and over?
