Default fatboy vs. goldwing

In China, price are the same for fatboy & goldwing. I like Fatboy, but goldwing has ABS, airbag, radio etc. I will have to pay more on my fatboy to get these facilities. My money can only afford one kind. I also know 2nd handed fatboy worth more than a goldwing, but I would never sell my fatboy. Which one is more fun to ride ? I normally would use the bike for long trips. Which one is more comfortable ? Any suggestions ? Harley has a dealer in China while goldwing does not.

I think you are compareing apples and oranges here. I think you should look at a Goldwing and a Ultra Classic, both touring bikes. A fatboy is a crusier. The 2008 Ultra will have all the options you mentioned (no airbag). My vote is to buy the Ultra. It is a little odd that HD has a dealer in China, but Honda does not.

If you decide to go with the Goldwing then you need to live real close to a Honda service Dept... Two people I know have 07's and they spend most of there time dropping off or picking them up.... Chk out there fourms and read the nightmares with service. Also the Fatboy and maybe the VTX 1800 would be a closer match..... But hands down Fat boy...

As already said, apples and oranges, but the fatboy is a very comfortable bike. I have a fatboy and a goldwing. I would be happy with either. If you have a local Harley dealer, that would be reason enough to pick it. Wallace in Georgia

I love my Harley but the Goldwing is an incredible touring bike. Plus its fast as s*it. I have raced my dad with him on my Wing and me on the Nightrain and he kicks my a$$ everytime

I love my Fatboy, but if I were buying strictly a long trip bike, then I would have to look at a touring bike (maybe not the goldwing specifically, probably a Streetglide). Also, it would concern me not having a dealership close byto take care ofany warranty issues that may come up.

I have a 2008 FATBOY it is an awesome bike, very comfortable even on long rides. I would feel more secure having a HARLEY shop around, especialy if it is close to you.

I rode an '06 Goldwing for awhile. Nice bike. Hard to compare Fatboy to GW, though. I'll hit the highlights so that you have a feeling for the differences.

As noted the GW is a touring bike. It rides "higher" than a Fatboy (you sit more on top than down in the frame) and runs out very differently. The Fatboy also puts your arms at a slight forward position (elbows seemed straigher), and I think the hand grips are wider on the FB. It seems that the ride on the GW puts your arms in a more downward angle

The Fatboy will have a nice low end torque while the GW is closer to the sportbike. The GW engine is marvelous (at least the '06 model was, can't speak for the '07). You'll find yourself twisting the throttle just to feel the power. On a Fatboy you still want to twist the throttle, but your shift point is considerably lower so the ride is a bit different.

Obviously the engine size goes to the GW, and the raw horsepower goes to the GW as well. But as noted, the torque on the HD makes up for some of that difference. Plus the HD is going to have the "sound" that a GW just can't come close to. If you don't care for the traditional V-Twin sound then you may prefer the GW.

Not sure if this comparison will do the job for you ... the Fatboy is like NASCAR while the GW is Formula 1.

Frankly I wouldn't mind owning another GW, but the wife wouldn't be happy if I bought another new bike this quick.
