Deluxe windscreen cutdown
Hi all,
Many thanks for all your posts and advice right here on the Forum re cutting a windscreen down and esp. many thanks to to HDF Tech
https://www.hdforums.com/m_312103/tm.htm
for an informative post with useful pics. Got tired of looking through the stock screen covered in dust, bugs and streaky rain/red mud from time to time, so did exactly as HDF recommended - card template, lots of masking tape, very fine jigsaw blade, slowest speed, and a slow single cut right to left, with left hand holding excess piece. The results with a lot of gentle hand filing, then sanding down to 320 grit, produced an excellent result for me - can't tell where the screen was cut, no scratches or uneveness at all, smooth edge. Just made sure the tape was in place all the time and took my time doing the job.
Result for me has been great: high winds yesterday, bufetting without the screen - put the cutdown screen on and blasted down the freeway and onto country roads, no buffetting, line of sight clear above the screen. Reckon I took 6 inches off the stock screen, but for me this works well, no wind on the chest or chin, and wind over top of helmet - I musta shrunk over time - started out 5' 10 1/2"
but I've got a deepish seat (that's what I say!)
So thank you all ladies and guys for this - got my courage up fom reading the posts and just cut the screen as it wasn't working for me the way it was!
Regards,
John
