Winter Storage

I never 'winterize' any of my bikes, other than hooking them up to battery tenders when the temperatures are in the lower 30 or below.
And yes, we have a lot of snow, and pretty chilly temperatures during the winter. (Couple of pictures from last winter, one when it was right at minus 10, and one right after an 18 inch snowfall).
Even in the winter you seldom go more than a week or so with conditions that don't allow riding. It might be 10 below zero one day, with over a foot of snow, and within a few days it might be up in the 40's with dry roads.
Nothing at all difficult about riding in 30 degree weather, so I say HECK with 'winterizing bikes' anymore than 'winterizing cars and trucks'.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it.

winter storage sucks....ride. I'm on mine 12 months out of the year, there is always that freakishly warm weather days, even in January. I don't understand laying it up for 5 months.

4. If you have a lift, put it up so you don't flat-spot the tires. Otherwise change the bikes position from time to time over the 5 months.

There is somekind of chemical reaction when rubber sits on cement for extended periods of time,
put something down on the floor between the tire and the floor.
They will have flat spots and not ride as smooth by next spring.
and put some Staybil in the tank and run it for a while, to get the treated gas into all the fuel parts.

Isnt the "get your tires off the ground" a left over from back in the days of Bias Ply tire era??
Ive NEVER seen a modern tire develop a flat spot from sitting. Vehicles sit here for years sometimes with no issues....
I left my mid 80 pontiac with newer Avons sitting in the back driveway for 2 years... no issues.
Every bike ever owned has never left the ground (not on purpose anyways)... no flat spots
Could be an old wives tale or like i said, only effects Bias Ply tires.

I couldn't go 5 months without mine! It was 45 on my way home from work this morning. I'll stop riding it when - well, maybe not. At least I was smart wenough to bring a jacket with me tonight. That was COLD!
Thanks for all the info. I would love to ride all year if I could. The cold doesn't bother me at all --- you just dress for it. Unfortunately the problem here ( inthe great white north - Canada ) when the snow falls it plans to stick around for awhile. It would be great to have it snow one day and a few days later the roads be dry enough to ride, but that just doesn't happen here. I may be able to ride for a few days in nov and dec and thats it , once we see a good snowfall in late dec or early jan --- it will stay until april. You might get the odd day , but the roads are still full of crap. At least she's in basement and at home for the winter with me.
