I went from a 2000 1200 sporty to a 99 Fatboy with 7k miles on it. Since I bought it, I've had to install a jet kit, (previous owner installed Samson pipes & didn't put a jet kit in it), & a new battery. Surprisingly enough, the tires, (original), were in great shape. No weather cracking at all. I love it. I'm 5'6", & it's so much easier & comfortable to ride than the sporty, it's unbelievable.
Oh ya, I did put 4" pullback risers on it so I wasn't reaching so much,(short arms).

Oldfenderguy,

Great bike. What are the highway pegs you have on your bike. I like them much better that highway bar/peg systems.

Thanks...

Those are the adjustable Kuryakyn Mark IV Cruise Arms.

I like them are they are very stable, and they bolt directly to existing holes in the lower frame. They come in two lengths, one for inseams of 32" and over, and one for those with shorter inseams. I have the 'longer version'. They have about 3 inches of adjustment, so you can 'custom fit' them to your preference.

I know a few that have these mounted on their Softail's. The center bar between each side is just there for additional support. The frame mounts themselves are so sturdy some guys don't even install the center bar.

Between the floorboards and the cruise arms there are an almost unlimited number of leg/foot positions available. I have my cruise arms set so I can rest my heels on the floorboards while the soles of my boots rest on the arms. Very comfortable, especially when on those long, all day runs.

The Mark IV Cruise Arms get my 'seal of approval'..

i love my fatboy, gives me the best of both worlds, solo seatwith a sticky pad for the ole lady for crusing, then in about fifteeen minutes i have a quick detach winshield, bags sissy bar with rack for t-bag and i'm ready for the long haul. the main thing i like about the bikes with the bigger frontt tires is that they have less of a tendency to track in groves or cracks in the road.

I've only had mine for a couple months, but I can't imagine being happier on anything else. The previous owner traded it in for a V-Rod because the vibration was a bit much. He's not happy with his choice. Personally, I like being able to feel the bike running. I'm not sure just how much the engine hasbeen modified, butwhen I shovel some coal on the fire I really need to hold on!

I started back into riding after a long layoff and bought a 04Sportster Roadster put about 6000 on it in less than 6 months and realized I wanted a bigger bike traded it in for a RK Custom and put a couple of thousand miles on it and then made the mistake of riding a Fat Boy. Traded the RK for a 2005 FLSTFI Annv Model with the factory 95 engine and Ive never looked back.

Love riding my Fat Boy !

Most of my rides are only a couple of hundred miles at a time and then back home so it works out great. If I ever want to go longer and do a trip, I'll get some bags and EZ brackets pop on the windshield and go.

It might not be the right bike for everyone, thats why HD makes a bunch of models. But the FLST platform (Fat Boy, Heritage and Deluxe) makes for a great cruiser, good touring and a fun all around bike IMHO.

Love mine, ridden sporties, duece and ultra's. Both my Fatties are great, but obviously my 07 has it's advantages. Greatest "all around" bike there is, touring, bar hopping, you name it.
