No, you won't harm your ride. You can install the pipes and ride however, get a fuel manager and good air cleaner soon. You are gonna run a little lean until you do. Just check your plugs from time to time and they will tell you what's up.

Opening up either end (exhaust or intake) has little or no effect on performance, just sound in case of exhaust. However if you open up both ends you will absoloutly need a fuel management system. The best one if you plan NO further mods is the Vance & Hines Fuel/pak. If you plan to do cams/big bore/head work, then consider a "tuneable" system like the PC or the ultimate Thunder/Max

I used the V&H Fuel-Pak.... I like the fact that without any internal engine modifications, you just go to their website and select the year model bike, engine, pipes, etc... and it it gives you the numbers you program in with the little buttons on the unit... VERY EASY!

My bike now sounds great, runs better, and runs cooler!!
Thanks allengator,

I think I will go with the V&H fuel-pak.

Where is the best place to fit it in the bike ?

The FuelPak will mount under your seat over the top of your ecm.

From alot of posts on here your money will be better spent contacting Fuel Moto for the PCIII, it will allow you more options in the future and the price is not much different than the fuel pak. I run V&H Big Radius, K&N 3910 AC, and the Thunder Max Auto Tune on my 07 Night Train. To do it again, I would go with a deeper less audible exhaust, stay with the K&N maybe the 3909, and a Fuel Moto PCIII, I would have saved a ton of cash with this combo and probably seen the same results now and in the future, just my opinion though!

When it comes time to install your fuelPak, you may not have the room you need to follow the directions. The security module installed in my bike made the ECU tray very shallow. I didn't have room under the seat to mount the FuelPak as prescribed in the V&H directions.

My custom shop guys got creative and found room. I took pictures and described what they did on this thread: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2235720/tm.htm

Once new pipes and air cleaner are installed, you MUST add a fuel manager to richen air/fuel ratio or run the risk of burning up your valves. Whoever told you a stock ECU could handle a/c and pipe changes is a dope. There is a stage 1 download that can get put into the stock ECU (maybe that's what they were saying), but I've heard numerous times on the forum that it gives you dissappointing results.

I would keep the ECU stock, add the FuelPak, and then enjoy the benefits.

If Ihave to change my exhaust, It will onlybethe type, where there is a choice of different baffles, you can interchange. This way you can alter the sound level to get it closer to your liking. I have a set of Samson II, Rip Saws, 1 3/4" drag pipes on my bike. They are outrageously loud and were not meant to put baffles in, so I have a very limited choice of aftermarket baffles to experiment with. The second set of baffles I am altering now, may quiet the exhaust enough to work. If they don't I will have to put on a new exhaust system.

NICE choice!
I have the PCIII and in process of probably getting SEAC.

Chrome Lady,

Your bike looks great.

How do you like the noise form your pipes and what's the main diff. between PC111 and Seac ?
Apparently she doesn't respond timely, so allow me to chime in (and she say's I don't pay attention!).

She has commented that her bike is loud, but not really bad if you don't hammer on the throttle. She also likes the Thunderheader I have because of the deep tone it has.

PCIII modifies the fuel curve on your bike, sort of like jetting a carb, easy to use and very flexible. SEAC is a SE air cleaner.

Good to hear this. Are you doing the install, or having a shop do it when everything comes in?

There is some additional "tid-bits" I can pass along from experience:

1. Read the FuelPak instructions several times. They are clear, concise, and useful. The more you absorb the better. All of their docs are online, as well as their settings info. I was re-reading mine for weeks before the actual install ocurred.

2. Even though I had a shop do all my stage 1 install, Idecided tore-do the throttle calebration (which is the FuelPak mode 21) a couple of times until I was happy with how the throttle was being read.

3. After some emails to V&H and forum thread research, I changed the prescribed setting for Mode 23. The original value for this mode was 16. I changed it to a value of 15, which helped reduce decel popping for me. My pipes are the V&H BSS, not the ones you're getting (but I love the Big Radius too). This mayalter which mode value setting you change (if any are needed at all).

4. Make sure that you have no Exhaust leaks, and when you are outriding around be extra aware about what you hand is doing on the throttle. I had a slight tendancy to NOT completly be off the twist. This is where you'll notice how sensitive the throttle calebration is (when you do your mode 21 checks).

5.You will notice a little bit of a "tin" noise in your pipes when brand new. This goes away in a month or two after some carbon builds up inside.

Be sure to get back to us with some new photos when you get done! Good luck with everything!
