I am replacing the SE2 mufflers on my FXSTI and was wondering how much difference in sound the Samson Big Gun 2's sound compared to the Screamin Eagles.
I will be getting either the Rip Saws or Short Slashers. The Big Gun 2's have baffles in them also.
I like the Samson Big Guns and it's what I have on mine. Samson pipes are louder in my opinion, but honestly though they may miss a little of the rumble that you get with other pipes. IMHO
A couple of things to consider.
1- Your slip-ons have more low end than both...
2- a rule of thumb that a lot of folks go by is the louder the pipes - the more low-end you lose.
I had Slip-ons and when I went to SE-2 pipes the over-all sound got louder and in my opinion better - but a little less low end. The pipes seem to sound a little maener as you put some miles on them....
Samsons may be a little louder, but that does not mean they sound better.
You need to hear bikes with both if you can, so you can make the best desicion.
I love my SE-2 pipes. They look great, and they sound great. I've set off many a car alarm with them - they are plenty loud. If I were you I'd be concerned with giving up some of that deep growl for a little extra volume...
