I have had problems with grips for 2 years. Original grips turned my hands black after a long ride. I bought the HD chrome grips with the HD insignia in the middle. Did not like the feel and the chrome failed in 4 months. Warranty was for 3 months. Put on leather covers and liked the feel but not the look. I recently bought SAC grips in the color that matches my bike color. Looks great. Very soft and only cost $65.00. Very sure grip in a bad storm coming back from Daytona. Like em so far. I think I will chrome the rest of the bike but not the grips.
First of , if this happens to anyone in traffic you should just pull your clutch and you won't loose so much speed and you will be abl to move over and out of danger without to much trouble.
The reason they wanted the grip back would have been to show the supplier of glue that they are having some failers and to kick there *** into supplying a better glue .
Karakyn did the right thing and sent a new grip staright away, so props to them.
Probably not the problem in your case, but if you keep your cables good and lubed with something like Dri-Slide, you won't have as much resistance and the grip might not be as willing to seperate. Glad you are OK. Thanks for posting.
I was riding with Sean (HDWG) and HeatherC a year ago on our way to the South East rally (around Maggie Valley) and Sean's grip did the same thing right in the middle of the mountains. He thought he had a broken throttle cable too. Exact same problem.
