Sunday, I was returning home from the Toys for Tots run for C.H.O.P. To my surprise, I found myself with a spinning grip at 70MPH in the left hand lane of a 4 lane highway, a place no one wants to find one self coasting in heavy traffic. First I hit the hazards lights and then thread a line to the right hand shoulder, luck was truly on my side. As I came to a stop my first thought was a broken throttle cable that could only be remedied by my memories of my first minibike when I was 6 and some kite string .......you know, you were there. To further investigation I found that my( Kuryakyn ISO) throttle grip separated itself from the inner plastic throttle assembly. My first reaction to the problem was F#@% Kuryakyn. OK ,this is know time for verbal revenge, I have to get home to watch the Philadelphia Eagles. The fact that only the grip detached itself, I still had a working throttle, although cosmetically unappealing. It seems as though that I dodged another bullet. Only one thing one could do at this point, dump the clutch and twist that ugly mother F@%#ing throttle and head on home to watch the game only see Donovan McNabb lost his grip on the 1st play of the game......lol The next day I called Kuryakyn to let them know what happened and what glue I should use, but they sent me a new one next day and just wanted the old one back. I think the engineering guys and girls are going to get a memo, Oh well.
Never happened to me, I got the factory dull grips on my Fatty. Thought about getting new ones as the next add-on. Thanks for sharing. Let us know what the engineers say.
the same thing happened to me but with both grips. I had them installed. i just put a lot of glue on it when i got home and it's been fine sense than.

Wow! First, glad you are okay. I would have S*#& my pants!
And be thankful too that you were not in the midst of all the riders on the Toys for Tots Run and perhaps unable to smoothly coast out of the way.
Timing and luck were on your side!
bummer! at least you're OK.. maybe they wanted the grip back so they could hide the evidence?
Your probably right that's why I'm posting the pic. I would hate to see a novice rider finding him or herself in this predicament. I know personally from my motocross back ground, that I'm subconsciously ready for most mechanical failures at any given time. I know I wouldn't want my girlfriend confronting this problem with her skill set. If you find yourself lose power, try pulling the grip off. If it comes off stuff it between your legs and hammer it.....if your in traffic. Here's what it looks like without the grip.

PROPS to you for sharing the news !! Glad to hear things worked out for you.
On another note .... I did that run as well, although I've learned to lay back and stay at Finnegans. I put my toys in the Paddywagon and let them takethem over for me. You are SOOOOO lucky that didn't happen to you while on the run itself. Some of those guy's can't ride worth a damn and you would have been run into for sure.
