Im sure its been asked I just couldnt find it. Ive read about what sounds like valve noise on the 07 FXSTCs (and others) and the loud 'clang' when starting.
Is it also normal to be using a little oil?
What about loud shifting? Not real loud but its starting to worry me...
Ive got about 3k miles on it now...Thanks for any help!
Not sure about the "valve" noise. Most "little" noises seem to "go away" once you start messing with the pipes, especially when your bike doesn't have a windshield or fairing.
As for the "clang" on startup, that's fairly normal. Its just the starters Bendix drive smacking the pinion gear into the clutch basket mounted ring gear. The outer aluminum primary housing is not the greatest sound deadener so it can be a bit disconserting to the unwary.
The tranny clunk is also fairly normal, you got a set of big gears in there that have to be slammed together every time you change then and again the case is not the last word in sound proofing. Most people "experience" the clunk with their foot more than actually hear it.
In time it will get better as you get more accostomed to properly shifting it and some miles smooth off the "rough" edges. Just be sure you keep it properly filled with some goodhigh grade oiland you should have no problems.
