I have a 2006 FXST with the 200mm rear tire and solid wheel. Recently, the weights for the rear wheel balancing from the factorycame off. 3300 miles. I am not sure how much weight was there but it was a square with two way tape about 3/4" by 1/3".
Iwent over to the Harley dealer and was told if I wasn't experiencing any problems therewas no need to replace or re-balance the rearwheel/tire. I don't think I feel any additional vibration.
You may not feel it but if it's not balanced properly i's goin to ruin the tire. I'd have it rebalanced but not from the MoCo, take it to an Indy they'll do it cheaper....
I would have it redone, just because you never know.
Sometime down the roadit might just hit a bump the wrong way/time and cause the wheel/tireto do something ugly.
Beside Shaw is right, eventually it will wreck the tire from excessive wear.
BTW you probably won't feel any thing different from that amount of weight difference. But believe me when I say the tire will notice it sooner or later.
Mine came off after about 2K andI have 8K on the bike now. Ive never taken it back in to get rebalanced simply because Im too damn Lazy.I also , like you , called the dealer and they wanted the bike back as soon as possible but I just havent found the time to do it.Ive watched the tire for abnormal wear etc etc and so far so good.If you dont mind them taking your bike for the day then Id get on over there and have it re-balanced. I work from 3pm till around 1am and by the time I get home and getin bed its 3 am ...sleep.....coffee......go to work...repeat daily and that makes me LAZY!
If the tire is out of balance enough it can cause problems with other components. Chances are you only had about .75 oz of weight on the rim. That is not going to be a big problem. but I try to balance mine to less than .25 oz. My balancer will read down to .05 and most of the time I get to within .10 oz. Some will tell you that they balance to "0" but chances are they are in the Round-off mode on their balancer, and it will read "0" at .25 or less. On that size tire I would be concerned with single plane balance only. Dynamic is not much of an issue on that narrow of a rim. I would also check runout on the tire. I find that runout is often more of a problem than balance. Don
