I am getting ready to buy pipes for the Deluxe and need some advice form those who have been there and done that. I like the looks of Big Shots Staggered but wonder if there is any way they may drag and scrape during aggressive riding in the twisties or over abrupt changes up and down. I talked to one person at a rally and he said his pipes would drag sometimes, so I am looking for more clarification and advice. Any and all help is appreciated.
You will put the board in to the asphalt in the twisties if you get aggresive. Two up I have put the back corners of the frame, just were the swing arm starts, into the pavement. I have adjusted my cornering technique to deal with the limited clearance. Having said that I wouldn't change bikes, the Deluxe is a great bike.
I have the V&H Bigshots on my Deluxe and have been through plenty of twisties like Deals Gap. I scrape the floorboards at least a couple of times a month and have never had the pipes scrape. I love these pipes.
to commander112,
1. How do you like the true duals?
2. What are they?
3. What made you decide on true duals?
I like them a lot. They are quieter than the Rush 2.0 slip ons they replaced but make ample noise. Love the thumping coming from both sides of the bike. I'm running the Samson's and don't have too many miles on them yet so I cannot speak to the quality of them. If you decide to go this route, American Classic Motors on Ebay has them for the best price and they arrived to me in 1 day. I went true duals as I am slowly working on giving this bike an old school look of the 61 FL bikes. The bike seat is next up.
I love my new V&H long shots. Also, for better performance, I added the SERT and AC and had it dyno and gained 5.85 hp and 11.75 more fp of torque.
I love the V&H Big Shot Longs on my '08 Deluxe - look and sound great. Haven't dragged them yet, but I have to admit I've been kinda careful and not overly aggressive since I'm just getting used to a bike of this size and stature after my '04 Sportster. Also went with the V&H FuelPak. Very easy to set up Great choice if your not planning any other engine mods other than pipes and a high flow air cleaner. Good luck with your decision.
