Ok, i just installed some new grips. everything went on ok, but when i put the brake lever back on i must of broke something because my brake light is stuck on? it's like the lever isn't pushing the switch in all the way? any idea's????????
Did ya read the part in the directions about putting a piece of cardboard between the brake lever and the housing[:@]. You broke the brake switch. Sorry but it's an expensive little booger and a pain to replace. Alot of us have made this mistake. Kinda like forgetting to put your foot down at a stop sign or forgetting to put your kickstand down at a gas station.
Check with your dealer on repair cost. If you are mechanical you can do it yourself. I think you will need a soldering gun along with a new switch.
I don't undestand why you took off the break lever? I just remove the switch housing cover and the throtle cables, But I feel for you if you broke something on your New ride.
well the directions didn't tell me how to do the throttle side. it said see manual, which i don't have.so i tried it without one. but i can't see any broken parts. i see the button that goes in & out and the lever pushes on it. it just won't go all the way in ?
Sounds like you broke the break light switch off. You'll need to replace it with a new one if it is broken off. Make sure it is broken and not jammed from incorrect installation of the halves.
You can bypass the problem of a piece of cardboard from falling out if you hold the brake lever in a bit when reinstalling the control halves
Before removing the old handlebar control, a 1/4-inch lock washer (5/32-inch) was inserted between the brake lever and lever bracket to prevent any damage to the front brake light switch.
well crap! i found that small part i broke off, and i must say that is a xxxxxx design!!!
well it's off to the dealer to buy a new switch. any advice on how to install the switch. oh yeah i'm going to buy a manual.....
Are you sure you broke it off? Not sure the Duce is set up like a Fatboy but it should be. There is a little brass wedge that goes in between the switch housing and the light switch. It works kinda backwards from what you think. When you squeeze the lever it lets the plunger release activating the light. You might have to play with it to get the spacing right but you should be able to make it work with a little garage engineering. Just adjust the switch until the brake lever tab is pushing the plunger in far enough to make the light go off. If you cant find the little wedge deal just use cardboard until you get the thickness right. Hope this helps.
