I've never rode a Springer and I know no-one with one so
Tell me whats its like
suspension ??
how does it do on a wash board
How bad /good does it take a pot hole
will I even know the differance
Or are they just old school and a pain to keep clean
It handles and feels great on any road I have been on...I ride hard alot of the time too...been known to make a few sparks in the corners.
The only thing others tell me is they tend to put too much input into the handlebars and make the bike wander on the road a little.
It is a little change from standard forks but no big deal. Front end is a little heavy pushing around the yard compaired to tube type forks.
Hope this helps.
By the way....I will never sell my springer..even when I buy or build another
Loved my Heritage Springer. Ther first time I rode it I was a little uneasy...so many comments about how heavy the front end was, the washboard effect and all that. Flew to Denver to pick it up and took off with my friend on his Fat Boy up to Rocky Mountain National Park/Estes Park. First corner I dove into I was blown away. Handled like a dream. Very responsive, VERY solid.
I've only had the 1 Harley, so I haven't anything to compare it to but I know one thing, I wouldn't trade it for any other bike. A friend of mine says that it stands out and is easy to recognize as I go down the rode. That is one of the many reasons why I picked my Springer.
I love my FX Springer. Word in the mags is that they ride better over the small bumps because of less stiction than a conventional front end but they bottom out on the bigger bumps because of less travel. I really haven't noticed much bottoming out. I ride fairly aggressively and it handles really well in the twisties.
First thing to do, though, is to replace the useless single piston front brake with a 4 piston brake that actually works. I thing they use the single because they are worried that a stronger brake might bend the fork. When you can't stop, you will bend more than the fork.
Ive had both tube and springer front ends. And am on my second Springer the first was a FX and now a FL both are great bikes. When it comes the negative comments you may have heard about them you can bet that 99% of them are from people that have little or no experience with them.
