I just wired the garage open last night and Iwent with the wiring to the brights method, took a little longer than expected but very happy with the results.Had a spare remote which I opened and soldered two wires that went to a relay that triggers the remote. The relay is triggered when the brights come on.I added a capacitor and resistor in series with the relay,it will ensure that the relay is on for only about 1 second. As Kevinc said its been discussed before on the forum. So if you have trouble with the remote getting loose under the tankyou can research goingdown this path it works a treat.
Search the Forum. I saw a therad last summer that gave directions for wiringa standard remote into your bike so when you hit the brights it opens your garage door.
Guess that's to avoid buy HD's system for $100. Their's works off the hi beams also. Says it works with most garage door openers but doesn't say which?

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a way to do it without buying the HD version. The next time I get ambitious, I'll check it out. Thanks again.
I installed an extra opener I had inside my fork tins then wired ina micro switch that's intalled inside the bottom half of the handlebar control housing. The switch comes out the bottom and can't be seen unless your crawling around under the handlebars. It's one of the best options I've put on the bike so far.
my standard garage remote is same size as alarm fob. They both sit in my vest pocket with ignition key. I just slide the mit into the pocket and voila.
Mind you I am already under cover before I access the remote so its all easy.
Installed mine on the insdeof thewindshield pouch. Just velcroed inside the pouch so it wasn't hard to find when needed. Just flip openthe pouch& hit the buttonbutton. If you take the windshield off it can be removed & placed in your pocket.Just another idea.
